I have a 2005 focus zx3. I bought the car two years ago with a lot of issues, for super cheap! I’m currently rebuilding the whole car! Inside and out. The car is stock with 15 inch wheels. I’m trying to fit a 16-17 inch wheel, but it looks as if a bigger wheel will cause rubbing against the struts. What is required to make it work?

The 17 should fit fine as long as you use a quality front strut. I've found the bargain struts from China to be dimensionally different from name brand or OEM.
I could always go with some 15x8 4x108 20offset, and lower her by a bit with some Coilovers… but I just think the appeal is better with a little bit more wheel.
I ran 17inch SVT wheels on my 06 ZX5 with no issues other than losing 5mph on top speed. No clearance issues.
