so i got my car back and im continuing the mods. im going to remove the ac and powersteering pulleys, in other words get a shorter belt and run it w out those pulleys. that should free up, bout 10 horse im thinkin, BUT will that bring any diar consequences other that hard turns and sweaty rides?[dunno]

I don't know how good that would be for the steering rack...maybe if you replaced it with a manual one (assuming there is such a beast for the Focus.) However, I doubt that would free up a lot of power. There really isn't any reason to remove the AC compressor pulley, as long as the AC isn't running its not going to put any drag on your engine. If you're overly conscious about it, just pull the fuse for the compressor and it'll never kick on.

I dont think it would be worth getting rid of power steering. I mean half the fun with the focus is being able to whip it around turns. And you will have a much harder time doing this with out the PS. Just my opinion but i would keep the belt like it is and enjoy the car. And just do other upgrades like CAI, exhaust, exhaust manifold, intake manifold ect.

As far as I know, removing the pulley is only applicable for older 80's to 90's cars.

In regards to power steering, I've heard arguements about both. Some like feeling the road w/o powersteering, while others like the "whip it... whip it good" of power steering. Flick or pull? Are you strong enough to handle it?

the advantages of not having power steering wont be felt with a car that was originally designed to have it. the better feel of not having power steering comes from a car with a manual rack, its alot easier to move the wheels at slow speeds and turn compared to a power steering car that is broken,

i wouldnt be needing to do this if there would actually be those upgrades you mentioned ,shocker2k, for the focus spi. theres only so much i can get out of it. so i gotta think outside the box to do it right, and so far thats all i have. theres no stronger internals that ive seen for the spi, no turbos, or superchargers, i could go with nos but theres no point wihtout stronger internals, no pulley kits, or any good computer upgrades for the spi, no headers, and i think you get my point. all ive seen is just rims body kits and crap for looks. honestly im getting tired of not finding anything to make it go faster. i already guted it out, no rear seats or spare or paasenger seat. its not my daily driver thats why. so correct me if im wrong but i think thats as much as ill get out of my beloved spi. hit me back

A/C shuts off at WOT anyways.
And P/S does'nt really use power when racing in a staight line.
The small gains are not worth it.
There are fast SPI/CVH powered car's out there, no aftermarket did'nt stop them. There are UDP and headers availible, but that's not gonna make you much faster. Now stop whining or get serious about making power.

how am i supposed to "get serious" about making power when i cant find s#!% for my car, sniff. jajaja the only way is the CUSTOM way. custom this custom that. like you for example, w your litlle escort. BUt what about for those of us who dont have a shop or people wiht vast knowledge about cars and neverending experience with engines, what do we do?

Welcome to the Focus Fanatics Forum.

You need to rearrange your brain, you have to go CUSTOM because you're not satisfied with your car STOCK. You'll also find LOTS of people with vast knowledge about cars and never ending experience with engines right here.

You DO need to think about your posts, be thoughtful, insightful and be nice.

There is a lot of stuff for your car but if you think you can spend $10.00 on a plastic doo-dad that will make your car an "EVO-killa", you've got another thing coming.

If you want more power or better drivability, start off with the FocusPower forum on this site. The guy there, Tom, knows EVERYTHING and can probably hook you up with a nice tune for around $400. Yes, $400, it costs money to make improvements.

by custom i mean custom parts not cars and i didnt mean to offend the guy w the escort my respects to him but, by little i meant in size. And money personally i dont mmind spending it, cause i actualy have it, but its the fact that ive alreade spent a load of it on my focus and im getting nowhere with it.its an awesome car and my first, but you wouldnt know cause you drive an svt. its easy for you to say.

you havent done enough research, like someone said getting rid of the a/c wont do a damn thing, and with a newer car getting rid of power steering you will have one hell of a hard time trying to make a turn.

you need to look harder there is a thread on here listing EVERY SITE that sells performance parts for all focus engines, look around what you want to do is pointless, and you will regret it the first time you drive it

There are aftermarket parts out there for the SPI Focus. UDP, adjustable cam gear, Intakes, headers, cat backs, throttle bodies and chips. Not all are still made, but there out there might have to buy used.
But all that does'nt matter, cause even if you did find and bolt on every bolt on part out there, you'll still be slow.
Only way to really make a difference is forced induction or head work/ high compression.
