UPDATE: I was doing my compression and leakdown tests wrong, the engine is healthy. see post 8
Got this car for a song from a junkyard (as a project) with body damage and figured it was junked for the body and not the engine. Engine ran rough but the gas was 4 years old. 95k miles
Got it home, cycled gas, did all fluids and it runs better but still rough. compression tested at 210-60-115-210 (on a healthy engine with the same gauge I get 200-210 on all). Leakdown on cylinders 2 and 3 shows air out the intake, mostly out the plug holes on the other cylinders that are open but I think I can hear it out the throttle body when that's open and feel the plug airstream change. This is my first time doing a leakdown test so I might be screwing it up. I looked in 2 and 3 with a borescope but didn't see anything interesting.
What should my next steps be?
- seafoam in gas? it was sitting for ~4 years, maybe there is some gunk or whatever. I think this is a long shot given the leak down problem
- pull the valve cover and see if anything is funny there?
- depending on the look under the valve cover, pull the head?
