Okay I took my car in for the 30,000 check up. I'm at about 30,150. So I had called the dealership yesterday and talk to them about doing the check up and they said it'd be about 95 dollars. Maybe I didn't hear them correctly because when I come in today they tell me its going to be 395 dollars[eek]. WTF they really don't even do that much, she gave me a sheet saying what they do and the only 2 things that are different from a normal oil change and check are that they change the fuel filter and "do a tune up" which I didn't need. Now here comes the real question how hard is it for me to change my own fuel filter. I'm assuming not very hard at all. I'm just blown out by the costs here.

If your CEL came on then they are charging you to turn that off. I got my car at 34k miles so I didn't have to get that done but I know my 04 civic when it got to 10k miles the CEL came on and Honda wanted 400 bucks to change the oil, check the brakes, and turn the light off. My advice is don't go do it, check all the stuff yourself and if you have the CEL on go to a gas station that does maintenance and most of them will turn it off for free.

No I haven't thrown a code, it was just the normal service charge. Anyone have any preferences on which fuel filter to use? Websites? I didn't pay for the service by the way. I told them I'd just take the normal oil change.

Lucky for my dealers they are very good at figuring out that I know better than for them to step up to me with these bullshit service charges. I haven't broken it down since 200 when I had an Xterra but back then adding the price of materials, shop labor rates, disposition fees, and tax, I still could not inflate the price of a service (that is not specified in the manual btw) to whatever it is that they ask for. Even if you did get your filter changed by them it should be in the $35-$55 range tops. Let me guess, they add injector cleaner huh, lol.

The reason they are increasingly so refered to as stealerships [rolleyes]

well you can check autozone or something like that for motorcraft fuel filter. OR you can buy it off of CFM website. but i am sure there are a bunch of place that carry the focus fuel filter.

there is a thread on some other focus site that has a detailed walk-through fuel filter change. if i find it i will post it on here, if someone doesnt beat me to it.

did they off you the large or industrial size container of lube with that service???

come over to my place next time, we have a 24 hour murray's within 7 miles distance, another murrays open til midnight within 3, a napa, autozone within 2, and a garage full of equipment and two ASE certified techs at my personal disposal to pick the brain of and get real answers.

**** stealerships, never again should they be allowed to touch an SVT anything, especially not one as tempermental and misunderstood as our zetecs

Don't mean to pry in on SVT threads but I just thought that I throw in a comment. The fuel filter isn't that hard to change at all. The only hold up was figuring out which bolts of the bracket to undo first.

Tip: Use the supplied caps off the ends of the new fuel filter to cap off the open ends of the old one, one side at a time. Pull one hose off, cap it, then repeat with the other side.

I found out right away that I didn't have to grab tons of shop towels to wipe up the mess. After I got the old filter removed, I just took a cap off and set it outside my garage and let the residual fuel evaporate itself.
