I probably have a really stupid question, but in the 2015 manual on page 272, they have the following recommendations:

Auto: XT-10-QLVC (Mercon LV Automatic Transmission Fluid)

Manual: XT-11-QDC (Motorcraft Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid)

So, Ford is saying NOT to use the Dual Clutch Transmission Fluid in the dual clutch transmission?

Is this a misprint, or is the Mercon LV a better fluid for the DCT? I wonder if the change helps make the DCT operate more smoothly? If accurate, I would guess it would have to do so...

XT-11-QDC is still listed for both manual & automated manual transaxles in this chart:https://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricants.com/main/quickref/mantrans.pdf

I'd double check before using the ATF (even though it would prob. work - Ford synthetic Mercon)).

The old manual (MTX-75) seems to be happy with a LOT of fluids and this "Auto" is similar.

I also looked up the HTML version of the manual, which promises the latest information, and it has XT-11-QDC listed for both the auto and manual transmission.

That sucks that someone might do an early change and go by the (incorrect) printed manual...

Some tech. writer who doesn't know the difference copied the info. from elsewhere.

It's an automatic, so it must use the latest ATF formulation.

Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (hippy era guide to philosophy of repair) mentioned working as a tech writer for manuals.

Gets sent to a production facility, where the manager details his biggest screw-off (won't be missed) to fill in the writer on tech details. Re-write of outdated manuals with new info from the least informed.

OK, I'm confused. I have a 2012 Focus with manual transmission. The Dealer sold me two quarts of XT-11-QDC, dual clutch transmission fluid for the trans. According to the manual transmission fluid chart that's linked in this tread, the car could take what the dealer sold me or Full Synthetic Manual Trans fluid, as in the picture above, or Mercon V. Depends on the transaxle/transmission in the car. So, how do I tell what I should put in?

Look at the chart again, as seen here:http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/8885113-post22.html

Only the XT-11-QDC for the MTX-75 is listed for your model year.

Prev. spec synthetic MTF might be fine, but they list ONE fluid for all MkIII models for simplicity - automated manual or std. manual trans.

Mercon V is DEFINITELY not listed for either.

Just a comment: make certain you can find and fill to that location the manual transmission!!!
If you drain the transmission only to discover you cannot fill the thing due to a weird fill point... Blocked from above.. too small a space...

(I only know from my MTX-75 Contour SVT The fill is impossible without a lot of invented on the spot rigging, Involving a tiny funnel, two bits of plastic tubing, and 18" long aluminum tube precisely bent.. Then I was able to fill from above, between the battery and air filter. Without the device, Hell I lmight still be wondering WTF to do.)

A lot of different transmissions are listed for the 2012 model year. How do I tell which I have?

Also, the manual says Full Synthetic Manual Trans fluid and lists the XT-11-QDC only for the auto trans.

That chart (in the link from the referenced post) is for manuals only, under transaxles look for the MTX-75 that is the 5 spd manual transaxle for all MkIII cars.

Your manual matches my comment that Full Synthetic MTF would be fine, even though the current chart lists the XT-11-QDC that is the latest version of it as used in the automated manual versions.
