I have a 2001 ZX3, Zetec 2.0 with an ATX & basic bolt-ons...I don’t do any racing, but live in an area full of two lane roads & highways with a lot of retiree drivers & semi’s & would really like some performance upgrades to be able to pass comfortably & safely. IMO a Nitrous set-up is probably the less costly & most efficient upgrade, because it’s there only when I need it. Anyone have a different solution or opinion?

I have debated on running a small shot of NOS as well. Keep in mind that while it is cheaper, you still have to fill that bottle every so often and you will also have to get a tune for it.

Another cheap option (kinda) is to throw a JRSC (Jackson Racing Super Charger) on. It is the cheaper of the bunch and should get you enough boost to comfortably pass. They are low maintenance and will be a good amount of useable HP...of course you are looking at about 2k to do so. A friend of mine out here has a zx3 w/ a JRSC and he is putting out about 170hp.

What size? 'cause if its too big youll blow rings like a mad man. have you considered cams? the'll change your powerband so youll can get more power sooner. also a computer chip upgrade will help unlock some HP.

LMAO! nos just to pass people????? intake, catback exhaust should be enough, BUT if you want more you could also get the performance header, high flow cat ( or get rid of it ), and a flex pipe. if you want something more along the lines of NOS just get a turbo set up.

Wayne is working on my XCal right now, so I will wait till I get that back from him & see if that would be all I need to get by and by the way I am not talking about passing on an open road, there is a lot of traffic coming fron the other direction too.

Thanks for the info.

I think your best bet is an SCT tune. You could also do an intake and exhaust.

wasnt that the principle behind the N2o saleen focus ? never heard anyone over at saleen say go turbo or go home...

75hp direct port ford nos injection system will run you about 800$ (but have seen for as little as 300$ or so on ebay )

either way you go a tune afterward would be advised...
