So I've seen some videos on Youtube that are Ten Things I Hate About Insert Car Name Here

So I figured I would have a go. Maybe Ford can use our lists to improve the next generation of Focuses. What are ten things you hate??

10. B-pillar creates a HUGE blind spot.

9. Have to turn off Automatic Start/Stop each time I start the car. Wish there was a way to turn this off permanently as it doesn't come in handy for me.

8. Shifter squeaks.

7.Headliner rattles.

6.Car likes to lock itself up. I've already locked myself out once.

5.No light in the glove box or cubby in front of shifter. Really Ford?

4.Trunk barely stays open and has a narrow opening.

3.Lighting dial is in an awkward place. Almost impossible to see behind steering wheel

2.Have to completely remove the rear seat bottom for the rear seat backs to fold flat.

And the number one thing I hate about my Ford Focus is . . .

1.Fog light button and trunk release are right beside each other. I've accidentally opened my trunk while trying to turn on my fog lights while driving down the road. NOT FUN!

Well since I am a one day owner I can't comment too much about the car.
But yeah I agree on the fog light button, however I just set my lights to auto and they always come on with the fog lights which to me is more convenient as my 2005 I had to pull back on the knob to turn them on.

The seat back thing is annoying but same deal as my 05 I had to do the sam thing, I think my old 87 lynx has a better setup as when you push the seat back down it flips up the bottom cushion on its own, so 30yr car has better design.

the 87 lynx also has a glovebox light, but at least the focus has footwell lighting. I dont think my 05 zx5 had a glove box light either.

But so far I love the car, I know the dealer did the BCM re-program before selling it, so maybe if that wasn't done to yours they could and it would help as I though some of the lock issues and the car staying running was due to that.

Either way I love my car for the little problems it has the pluses far outweigh the negatives.

Mine has also popped open while driving when I turned on my foglights so I just left them on.
My rear seats not folding flat does bother me but I've had cars that they didn't fold at all so ill deal, for now.
The glovebox light would have been nice to have.
Honestly, having a light under the hood would've been nice to have also.

I've been terrified of the fog light proximity to the trunk release button -- so it really does open if you are moving??? Yikes. Sounds like this should be fixed.

The other items I have no complaints about. When my head liner rattles (near sunroof) I just apply some gentle pressure and it stops for a week or two.

I totally bought this instead of another Subaru. I hit 90k miles in my Saab 9-2X Aero (WRX Wagon), and I was fixing leaks from every imaginable gasket, seal, or hose. The car was robust, but the boxer maintenance was driving me nuts. Ford parts and service are much cheaper. Still, I will probably buy my wife a Subaru, since she hates the left-handed cruise control on most Fords (seriously!).

Trunk doesn't open while in gear.

My Escort has it on both sides. Since it's old and there aren't any radio or HVAC controls on the wheel, they put On & Off (separate buttons) on the left and Set/Resume & Cancel on the right (also separate buttons).

On my Navigator of the same vintage, HVAC and radio controls are on the right and cruise is on the left.

Both vehicles have it located where the Focus has its menu and Sync control buttons. I like it better on the wheel than behind the wheel like the Focus.

What's wrong with the cruise control on the left?
I will say the cruise on the left bothers me. My last couple of cars it was on the right and sometimes I still forget that and then hit the buttons on the right.

Trunk doesn't open while in gear.
Tell that to my '13. I'm pretty sure it doesn't open after a certain speed is reached, but in gear I can open it.

How are y'all getting your fogs to stay on? Mine turn off every time I turn the car off.

I'll double check, but I don't think mine opened when in gear.

Man, this is a cool idea, though I would struggle to find 5 things myself.

I have wondered since day one about that trunk button. I hit that fog button SO carefully lol. Who does ford's trunk button placement?? Have you been in a newer Taurus? Now that's bad placement.

Well past 20k miles on my Focus 1.0. I agree with a few things.

10) Don't notice the B pillar and have never had a problem. Will check tomorrow though.

9) TOTALLY agree about the start/stop function. It irritated the hell out of me in the beginning, but it's now part of the routine when I start the car. I turn it off immediately and rarely forget. Keep in mind, soon most cars with this feature won't be able to turn it off at ALL so be happy we can with the Focus 1.0.

8) I've had zero shifter squeak problems. Probably unique to your car. Take it in.

7) 20k plus miles and zero squeaks anywhere and no headliner problems period. All highway miles though which probably helps.

6) Never had this issue. Don't know how it could happen. Heard about it though. Strange indeed.

5) I don't need a light in the glove box, but around the ignition would be nice.

4) My trunk pops all the way open from the key since day one and stays open.

3) I'll give you that.

2) Yes had same issue getting rear seat to go all the way down. Kind of sucks when needed. And not knowing this until you have something to move really sucks. But second time you know what to do.

1) Haven't turned on my fog lights yet so N/A for me.

As far as the value, of course you're going to be upside down after buying a new car. Don't think with a Subaru you won't be upside down as well. I looked into a Subaru briefly before the 1.0 but with a manual, they only had it with the lower end models. Plus I thought they were plain looking compared to the Focus 1.0 w/Ecoboost package.

I like my 1.0 Focus enough that I'm searching for another new one with all the options I want. Yea I'll take it in the rear with trade in, but this second one I'll keep for 100k. I will ONLY drive a manual car, so not many options out there. And if there are, it's usually on a base or lower model. The manual days are ending. Sucks big time.

A few of your issues can be fixed by the dealer. Some are just limitations of the Focus. Every car in this category will have some limitations.

Hope you keep your car and good luck!

PS. HATE the fact that the Ford keys don't "fold up". Even a Chevy Spark I rented had that key feature. My Fiesta nor Focus don't have this. First world problems I realize.

another thing about the start stop, Iam so used to my manual cars being so hard to get into first i developed a habit of sliding into first at 5mph before a stop and with the new focus the start stop wont kick in since iam in first and the clutch is in. so I have to remember now if i see a long stop light to just coast in neutral till the stop so start stop does it magic! :)

That is allowed but for those unfamiliar with the manual:

Do not downshift into 1 (First) when your vehicle is moving faster
than 15 mph (24 km/h). This will damage the clutch.

It is easier on the clutch/transmission if you are stopped or almost completely stopped before shifting back into first.

10. B-pillar creates a HUGE blind spot.

depends on your sitting position. It is not that bad for me but if you were taller I could see it being an issue.

9. Have to turn off Automatic Start/Stop each time I start the car. Wish there was a way to turn this off permanently as it doesn't come in handy for me.

Yes this blows worst of all

8. Shifter squeaks.

4500 miles and no squeaks.

7.Headliner rattles.

300 watts of bass and nothing rattles at all, yet.... although I am sure the under belly lining will starting making noises one day.

6.Car likes to lock itself up. I've already locked myself out once.

not once have I locked myself out, I always have my keys if I leave the vehicle.

5.No light in the glove box or cubby in front of shifter. Really Ford?

no light in glove box is odd, but I have a cubby hole in front of my shifter

4.Trunk barely stays open and has a narrow opening.

Maybe your shocks are bad but mine opens up by itself and stays up w/o an issue. The space is narrow top to bottom vs say a 2014 jetta but the size in the trunk is still large

3.Lighting dial is in an awkward place. Almost impossible to see behind steering wheel

If it is your car how often do you change your settings? Can this be a top ten item? I set mine the first night and have never messed with them again.

2.Have to completely remove the rear seat bottom for the rear seat backs to fold flat.

not sure about this but try to slip the seat belt off the seats first.

I do not have foglights so I do not have this issue, but in my eyes this should be the number one problem. My corvette wouldn't open the hatch unless I was in park. Ford should look into something like that, park for automatics and car not moving for manual.

Sorry for your dislikes but I really do love my new ecoboost focus. The only thing I really dislike is all the fancy features to help you drive a manual transmission. Take off assist, rev matching assist, and of course the auto start stop feature. Other than those the car is pretty perfect in my eyes.
