So I've seen some videos on Youtube that are Ten Things I Hate About Insert Car Name Here

So I figured I would have a go. Maybe Ford can use our lists to improve the next generation of Focuses. What are ten things you hate??

10. B-pillar creates a HUGE blind spot.

9. Have to turn off Automatic Start/Stop each time I start the car. Wish there was a way to turn this off permanently as it doesn't come in handy for me.

8. Shifter squeaks.

7.Headliner rattles.

6.Car likes to lock itself up. I've already locked myself out once.

5.No light in the glove box or cubby in front of shifter. Really Ford?

4.Trunk barely stays open and has a narrow opening.

3.Lighting dial is in an awkward place. Almost impossible to see behind steering wheel

2.Have to completely remove the rear seat bottom for the rear seat backs to fold flat.

And the number one thing I hate about my Ford Focus is . . .

1.Fog light button and trunk release are right beside each other. I've accidentally opened my trunk while trying to turn on my fog lights while driving down the road. NOT FUN!

I'm sorry to hear that your focus is a POS like you said... have you considered a trade-in?

At least you have a trunk release button, my friends are dumb and don't know how to use any of the doors in my hatch, so I either have to get out or pop it with my keys :/ and my keys are always in my pocket

I'm not calling my Focus a POS necessarily, just things that I've noticed after owning the car for 3 months. There are some things I love about the car too such as my heated seats, heated steering wheel, smooth ride, decent mileage, etc.

And no, I couldn't consider a trade because of one other thing I forgot to mention on my list, A HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE drop in resale value even though the car is in perfect shape and only has 3,000 miles. Probably will be upside down on this car for a while :(

Should have stuck with my guts and gone with a Subaru.

At 3k you've got all the first year depreciation in any car, often almost 2 yrs worth since it's now a used car.

There are better & worse Subies as well, one constant is that none of them get fantastic mileage. Choosing a 1.0 ecoboost says that was a priority when purchased.

Subaru survived the head gasket failure fiasco but their handling of the oil consumption issue has flushed their reputation down the toilet IMHO. Sticking loyal customers who were still in warranty with repair bills as high as 8 grand to repair their boxer engine is unbelievable.

When I said I should have gone with a Subaru, I was just referring to their ability to retain value. When I was shopping for XVs, there were a decent amount of used ones with 30,000 or more miles with prices very near new sticker prices. I'm not bashing the Focus. Overall I like the car, just things I've noticed after owning it for a while that I didn't notice on the test drive. I wanted something cheap and economical that would last at least 100,000 miles as a daily commuter. I'm sure it won't let me down.

We'll see if that trend continues after the general public gleans what industry insiders already know about the boxer engine problem.

Also keep in mind that Subaru and Ford have different marketing and pricing/discount schemes. Fords can be bought for thousands below Monroney with numerous incentives while Subaru generally has less discount. So when you compare resale value be sure you are comparing actual acquisition costs, not trade in value relative to MSRP.

I hate the autostart/stop being on by default, its getting old turning it off everytime I drive my car. Using it has made no difference in my gas mileage.
I also hate my trunk opening being so small, can only fit the smallest of tote bins in there.

7.Headliner rattles.
They still haven't figured out the rattling headliner? Geez the first time it got cold after owning my 2012 I was so annoyed at the rattling headliner I was ready to firebomb the car.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great handling car, fun to drive, nice to look at, but the interior quality leaves a lot to be desired.

I too wish I could have the auto start/stop default to OFF. Although for the last few winter months I hit the heated seats, heated steering wheel and auto start/stop off button on every start up, so it's become automatic for me.

These two I do not get.

> 2.Have to completely remove the rear seat bottom for the rear seat backs to fold flat.

So the cushion of your rear seat doesn't pull up from the back and fold forward so that you can fold the seat back down? This is even standard on my 2000 ZX3. All Focus' should do that. This is what I am talking about.

This I especially do not understand, because the trunk release button is not supposed to respond to your input while the vehicle is in drive, again, a standard setting as far back as 2000.

I also don't get the B pillar, it's never been an issue for me but I also have the blindspot mirrors. All that other stuff sure sounds frustrating though!

Not sure if i'll reach 10, but...

1) Clutch chatter, as has been described to me here. Car shakes like crazy on acceleration. I still haven't been able to take it to Ford since I'm out of warranty and can't afford a huge repair, if it needs it.

2) Sync/Bluetooth fails every few weeks. I have to pull the fuse and reconnect. I just completely removed and stored the cover where the fuse box is so I don't screw up the yellow locking tabs.

3) Noisy shifter. That thing is loud.

4) When on the highway, I hear a rattling noise if I have no music. It's really annoying and have no idea where its coming from.

5) The dimmer for the inside instrument panels and stuff resets every time. I like to have it low as possible, so it's annoying to have to manually bring it down every time.

6) Hatch release button. This one is my fault because I sit close to the steering wheel and the way I get in the car, but my knee hits it sometimes and I accidentally open the back lol

7) Water leak - recent issue I just discovered this past weekend, I need to check where this is coming in from. I had 1 to 2 gallons of water in my spare tire compartment.

#5 - post up separately on that one, or search around for answers.

Seems like I've heard about that PITA before, and figuring out the "right" way to set the level would keep it permanent instead of a single drive change to the setting.

There just seems to be a lot of overall wasted space re visibility.

I've also been guilty of releasing the trunk while driving (fortunately, just reversing out of my parking spot). That function should be disabled at anything over 1mph!

This. I haven't messed up, but I can see how easy it is to happen.
I've also found though that if you set lights to auto with fogs on then fogs are always on when lights are on so set it n forget it solution..

I have 2 and neither have a headliner rattle issue.

Mine will not open unless I'm in park, in my 2016. The 2012 doesn't have the release button.
