There are some on here that will attempt to convince you that it is due to the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). After being in other DCT cars and not experiencing this slippage I can tell you it is not.

Take it immediately back to the dealership and have them fix it. Car should have never been let off the lot in that condition. Believe Cali doesn't have a "cooling off" period so the car is yours. But get it in and get the complaint registered with Ford so they have it in their records. Also, pull a Carfax report on your VIN so you can see if any other service calls have been done on the vehicle.

Welcome to the club of Focus DCT issues.

Mines been in the dealer since 6/15 waiting for parts.

Leaky rear main seal, contaminated clutches. Waiting for replacements. Nationwide shortage of parts. Wait, wait, wait ....

Hi my name is Mark! I just purchased a used 2014 Focus SE and am experiencing transmission slippage when accelerating. Is this normal?
Welcome to the forum, MarkD.

I want to look into some additional assistance; what's your mileage?

When I bought the car it had about 38,500 miles. When I test drove it, I noticed a little minor slippage and asked about it. I was told that it was a normal thing with these cars. Shame on me for not researching a little deeper! When I stared this week commuting with it...well things changed quickly! I drive 70 miles one way. The early morning commute is easy over the Golden Gate and thru San Francisco everyday. But, that same drive in the afternoon doubles and sometime, triples! When I hit traffic in the city, the slippage was a bit stronger. Then when I hit bumper to bumper on the freeway and would accelerate I got the major slippage! I own a 2013 F150 and love my truck! The Ford dealer should never have sold me this car in this condition! Now I have to go through who knows what to try and deal with this! I am sick to my stomach over this!

Thanks for the additional information.

The PowerShift 6 Speed Transmission is designed to provide the feel and efficiency of a manual transmission with the easy driving of an automatic. The PowerShift transmission automatically engages the next gear in anticipation of the shift, providing seamless shifting. It also has neutral idling, which disengages the transmission when sitting at idle, and helps to maximize fuel efficiency.

Because the PowerShift 6 Speed Transmission operates similarly to a manual transmission, you may notice some characteristics that provide a unique driving experience from the automatic transmission you may be used to:

  • When you take your foot off the accelerator pedal and the vehicle begins to slow down you may perceive a light to medium braking sensation as the transmissions makes adjustments.
  • During the break in period, the transmission may shift quicker or harder. This will smooth out after a short period of time.
  • You may hear mechanical noises when driving.
  • You may feel a difference when pulling away from a stop.

I recommend heading to your dealer to see if you're within specs. Please let me know when you do, if you haven't already. I see you mention being told it was normal, was this when you bought the vehicle, or more recently?

MarkD, return the car now if you can before its too late.... You'll never get it fixed. My girlfriends 14 has had her clutches replaced and she gets random chatters (literally feels like you're driving over boulders) till it upshifts. Such an uncomfortable ride and makes the car drive like garbage. Get out now

I have the same thing. The whole clutch was replaced in Oct 2014 and it's been doing it again and now ford doesn't wanna replace saying that I'm pass the extended warranty. But you look up ford warranty on their part they Warranty the clutch kit for 24 months unlimited miles. Dealer says that is what ford gives them not us the customer. Bullshit

Extended warranty Ford gave on the clutches is only good until 100k, if you're close try contacting Ford for special consideration.

The parts/service warranties are only good for customer pay service - if you paid for the repair you'd get that warranty.
