slotted rotors?

no clue why you want drilled and slotted, they do NOTHING for your braking performance or even the temperature cooling, i think i'd only do slotted, even then its debateable. There is a loss of braking performance when using drilled and slotted.

But if you insist on getting them then go with eithe EBC or Brembo...EBC being the more affordable one. Or you can go to tceperformanceproducts.com and get their brake kit.

i strongly am against any drilled rotors, lose surface area, degrade braking performance, causes actaul hotter brakes and also lasts a shorter period of time. i have heard that even big manufacturers like porsche say that they use it only for looks, not performance reasons.

ok then i would rather want slotted rotors is there differnt places to go for just slotted rotors?

i think thats a slight exaggeration on how frequently cross drilled rotors crack etc. Theres too many reputable companies that produce slotted/cross drilled rotors ...if they were that bad i would think most would stop producing them, and there wouldnt be any to buy in the first place. There is many strong advantages over OEM blank rotors. Porsche, MB, Ford, Dodge, VW, Chevy, etc all use cross drilled rotors stock on some of their cars.
Just stay away from the ebay rotors..those are all OEM rotors that were drilled after manufacturing, that could compromise the rotor strength since those in particular werent designed to be cross drilled..i can understand the risk in that circumstance.

EBC makes great rotors, dimpled and slotted. as does brembo..but i dont believe brembo makes cross drilled rotors for the SVT Focus yet

Drilled rotors have a bad tendancy to crack from hole to hole. Drilling rotors is pretty much "old school" and was a way to help dissapate rotor heat.

I would just get slotted rotors, work just as well and won't crack... at least hole to hole.

I had bought a set of "brembo" ones off ebay for my old car and they cracked within 3 months. Pretty sure they wereny real brembo rotors but they still cracked way to fast. I have the EBC slotted and dimpled rotors and i love em. Work great and look great aswell.

Spec3VR6 - Most of those companies have their rotors cast with the holes, which makes them much stronger and resistant to cracking than cross-drilling blanks. The vast majority of aftermarkted X-drilled rotors are exactly that, rotors that were made solid and drilled later.

Anyway, unless you are road racing consistently, they are only for looks. You'll never get any benefit from them unless this will be an open-track car.

ouikikazz - Porsche definitely doesn't do it for looks. They cast their own rotors, though, and cast them with the holes instead of drilling them afterwards. This gives them much more strength and resistance to cracking.

Crossdrilling is a performance advantage, but only if you are road racing, and specifically endurance racing. It allows serious fade resistance when neccesary for consistent braking under the harshest conditions. As Porsche's claim to fame is the ability to drive it from the showroom to the track, they absolutely need to engineer that sort of stuff in.

It's used on racecars too, and those guys never do it for looks. Of course, for many Porsche Club guys and all endurance racers, discs are a consumable just like tires, and they go through several in a season.

And what do you mean they actually get hotter, the only place that gets hot is if the brakes are constantly hot and cold and heat builds up around the holes which lead to stress cracks. I got drilled and slotted rotors and carbon metallic pads for christmas, and i doubt that the brakes are gonna get THAT hot.

That's the whole point. They won't get hot enough to be useful in the first place, but they will get how enough to form stress cracks as you drive it year-round. Like when you are braking hard and run through a puddle and splash cold water onto 300 degree rotors.

And, let's see what Tire Rack has to say: [;)]
Slotted, drilled or dimpled rotors offered as OEM replacements should not be considered appropriate for high-speed track use.

While grooved, drilled and slotted rotors offer an enhanced appearance and add some resistance to the boundary layer of gasses that can build up between the pad and rotor, they are not designed to withstand the extreme temperatures that are produced on the racetrack. If they are used on the track, it is very important that the rotors be carefully inspected and should not be driven on if even minor signs of deterioration are seen. Note, too, that if these products are used on the track they are not warrantable.
