After about 30 seconds of my car being started, and with the engine at idle, the battery light come on and stays on. Revving the engine does not extinguish the light! As soon as I drive, the light goes out. However, when driving at any speed, if I am not putting load on the engine (e.g. decelerating, not applying any pressure to the accelerator pedal), the light will come back on until I 'blip' the accelerator pedal.

With the car idling, the dash, radio and interior light all flicker!

I had AutoZone check the battery, and it's fine. They measured 13.5V out of the alternator.

The serpentine belt is tight (can be depressed about 1/2 inch), and all the connections are tight and not corroded.

The alternator is the factory fitted, and is the second one that the car has had (this one being installed under warranty about a year ago). Is the alternator on it's way out? I know a voltage of 14.5V is preferable, but I also thought that 13.5V would be enough!!

Can anyone give me advice, prior to visiting the dealer?

Nope that is what mine was testing at and it went out in a hurry, change it out before you get stranded somewhere, I had to replace mine about two months ago what a PITA

REDFOCZ, thanks for the input/reply!

Good news and bad news though, having found the cause! Good news is that it's not the alternator that's at fault, nor the battery. In all honesty, even though I don't really have the funds except my credit card), I was drooling over a new HO Iriggi alternator and an Optima Yellow D35 battery!!! Oh well, add them to the wish list and save up!!

The bad news is that I'm now running totally on battery, having found the problem and caused total failure to charge. I car pool, and when we got back to the house of one of my colleagues, they opened the hood and watch the engine bay while I revved (remember the light went off when 'loading' the engine). Well, they notice the connecter going into the alternator moved quite a bit during the engine flex while revving. So, I decided that I should pull the connecter off and reseat it. Well, as soon as I touched the connecter wiring, the red wire fell away and shorted on the alternator body! Problem found!

Now I have to get the car to the dealership and have it fixed. The wire broke AT the connecter, so I'm not able to simply splice and solder it back.

If the dealer is close you can drive there just on the battery if you need to. Just make sure it has a full charge when you leave... Just trying to save you a towing bill.
