1badassfoci.... First you have to understand that Hawk only makes high performance brakes. They started out by making high end racing pads which even they will say are worthless on the street. To cover this end of the spectrum they created the HPS. And while it may be designated as their street pad its still many times better than anyones best OEM pad.
Just about any quality OEM pad "and shoe" should be able to handle the big hill situation you mentioned. Front pads are not the total solution, you need a good rear shoe, fresh brake fluid, and rotors and drums that are in good shape. If not replace them. Good braking results from a total package not bits and pieces.
If you're not hung up on big names, the Mintex front and rear combo is a very viable option. There are advantages in getting pads and shoes that were designed to work together (coefficents of friction etc.) My personel favorites are, however, Axxis or PBR (same company) Metalmasters. I used these on my rally car and I'm currently using them on my Miata. They're an amazing street pad that can be used in a wide variety of conditions. They're very popular in rally circles because they operate under a very broad temperature range and don't need to be heated up.
