If you squeeze/wiggle hoses they might still be crunchy.

Sewing pin mentioned earlier is perfect for clearing jet on most, don't force it if it doesn't seem to fit.

Mine is running good now. No problems at 10 degrees. Just needed to squirt out the old fluid from mine when it had thawed.

When I pulled the main line from the first squirter there didn't seem to be anything in there from the hinge of the hood up. I'll keep trying today and maybe on my commute in today I'll have liquid!

HOORAY!

Glad it's working out, better than trying to replace a pump in the cold & it still won't work for all the other stuff frozen.

True. I would have been mildly upset going through that and it only turned out to be crappy fluid.

Thanks for all of the help sailor and all the other members for your support.

We have liquid! I'm hitting it every 5 min to get the old crap out. But I'm good!
Well that makes 2 of us! After reading your post I went out and tried the washers tonight and they finally worked. The higher temps of today - after being so cold for over a week - did the trick. The reservoir was full (or nearly so) and I had to run the pump/wipers continuously for nearly 3 minutes to empty it. Then I refilled it with known good -20F washer fluid. Im so glad I dont need to pull apart the reservoir/pump from under the fender.

I bought this car in April and never used the washers much in that time. The previous owner probably filled the reservoir with water or the summer grade washer fluid.

If anything I learned a lot about where and how my cars washer system is and works.

Thanks to all

Ugh. It's frozen again. Can't win.

What's the total capacity of the reservoir?

I thought I got a lot of the original or. Guess not.

5.1 quarts (1.275 gal)

Are you sure you drained all the old fluid out? Did you refill it with known good -20F washer fluid?

It took me a good 3+ minutes to drain my reservoir as I think it was full. After nothing more came out I let it sit for a few minutes then tried it again and a little more come out. Only then did I refill it.

I had filled it with the better stuff back when I was thinking (moreso hoping) it was empty. That's when I put in about 3/5th of the container to fill it up. So right now there is a mixture of old and new that is causing this freeze up. Hopefully, if I get another opportunity and it is freed up, I'll definitely hold in the pump until it drains it out completely.

I know this thread is kind of done but I thought I'd close it with a pic. I was at a junk yard this morning and there was a focus there with no fender so I snapped this pic. Looks like replacement method is about the same between mkI and mk1.5 just with the sides switched.
