is it just a bad sound clip or is that really how it sounds? any opinion from people that have the orp?

well, from what i've heard, it does indeed sound like crap with the stock exhaust. now, with the sweet sound of a borla 2.5" cat back, it sounds terrific. its not terribly loud, but extremely deep and it absolutely screams at wot. we had a gorgeous day today in southcentral wisconsin (for october anyways!!!), and after my 15 hours of work, i felt the extreme urge to go out and "burn the ole carbon out" as my gramps used to say. took it up to 100 twice and kept it above 70 on a backroad full of sweepers (all signed at 30-40 mph corners) for about 5 miles both ways.... it was bliss. pure symphony to my ears. i can only describe it as 1/2 rally car, half........ bad a$$ svt fury! i dig it like a ****ing garden.

well i have a magnaflow already so i wonder how it would sound with the orp....anyone have that setup?

Give it some time. I installed the ORP a few days ago, and it sounded really raspy and made that popping sound when I let off the throttle at high rpms. I noticed two things though;

1. the sound becomes less raspy (mellower) as the engine warms up, and also,

2. the popping or backfiring has completely gone away after putting a couple of hundred miles on the car. The only explanation I can think of, is that the ECU took some time to adjust fuel trims for the ORP.

It actually sounds pretty good now.

Shit my wife was rolling down the highway in our Xterra with some friends of hers when I thought it would be funny to give them some ear music with a 100 MPH flyby. Those damn women called me on the cell laughing their asses off then one manged to stop laughing long enough to say that my car sounded like some big, pissed off go-kart, lol!

Yeah stock exhaust + ORP really does sound like ass. The sound clip posted above is quite true in capturing the sound, only in reality it's even worse. I don't think the recording equipment was quite able to fully capture this sound. Yes it does sound like a race car to some degree but guess what, people don't take rally cars to the movies, or to buy groceries, or anything else.

I dunno, they are your cars. I was just giving my 2 cents as an owner of the F/C ORP. Damn I just realized that I have done nothing but bag on the part since I bought it, lol. Oh well, live and learn. I would prefer something that I can drive around with on all the time like the R/T high-flow however that wasn't on the market when I got the Gen II F/C unit. Don't get me wrong, it's a killer performance piece and when I hit a course or if I were to dyno or run a strip I would want to have it on, just not for daily driving duty.

Mine isn't much louder than stock during normal driving. It only sounds loud at WOT + high revs. It actually sounds pretty tame during normal driving. I'll try to post a clip.

This thread got off topic, so let me steer it back for a second:

You're all ignorant polluting bastards!! [scream] [nutkick]

[80?]

Phew, is that better guys?

i've admitted that i have a problem, and vow to get a hi flow cat next spring.... early spring... dammit, i can't just stop cold turkey!!!

I figure all those people who bought a Prius easily compensate for my ORP. As for the rest of you gross polluters, shame on you.[:p]

wow the orp sounds like shit in that sound clip....or does it sound like this in real life also?
That's just about exactly how my car sounded with the ORP stock svt and it got me unwanted attention so I sold it to somone else who wanted one. think it's a matter of personal preference and the laws whare you live. I did notice some porer gain not a lot but I'd say that the numbers the manufacturer gives are correct. I would say with the ORP I noticed as much gain as with the preditor on a out of the box tune maybee more

^^that's a video of my old ZX3 (R.I.P.) w/ the focussport header and flexpipe. i also had a thermal cat-back so i guess that gives you an idea. i was in 2nd gear the whole time. if i recall, the exhaust was most raspy at around 3-4k rpm but the higher up you went, i feel, the better the exhaust sounded. it's significantly louder than just having the cat-back. i also remember taking it in twisties and the exhaust def had a backfiring popping sound, but i thought it was pretty badass. not ricey. more of a mean popping sound if ya follow me. i never had an issue w/ the police about my exhaust, and when i had to get my inspection done i had a hookup.

Does anyone have the link where i can get the RT High flow cat??? I live in Southern Cal and i have a feeling that the ORP with be notice very easily, Thanks!
