Aerodynamics are pretty obvious, and weight.... the hatch is a bit heavier along with extra bracing to have it, than the trunk lid..... but I'm sure Mr Sussman could chime in also

Really, since the hatch has a larger virtual decklid than the sedan I would see the hatch being more aerodynamic. So, again, I'd like to see the CFD data to support that claim as well as see what is going on with both versions.

Going merely from the CD mentioned in the specs:
Sedan - 0.297
Hatch - 0.295

I've shared the data a few times now and don't feel like looking it up again tbh

Eh herm... mod pics

Finally got rid of the textured ugly skirts and rear valance. [emoji7]

The replica Zetec S grilles sure look different than stock. A bit closer to the hexagonal ST grille, a good thing imo.

Strangely the Europeans claim a lower drag coefficient for the sedan. That's where the supposed 0.274 comes from.

Why would the designer say it was 0.297 when Ford in Europe claims its slicker than this? Conflicting information everywhere.

The European page said:
Sedan: 0.274
Hatch: 0.295
Yeah right? It's so confusing. The way the C&D article states, “Well, strangely, it’s the sedan that achieves a 0.297 coefficient of drag”, it makes it sound like it has a bit better of a drag coeffecient than the hatch.

Really I think the question has been answered, but what are the correct numbers?
Unfortunately with the launch of the MK3.5 (technically still MK3 since the chassis code is unchanged unlike when the C1 became the C1MCA and the car went from C307 to C346), fordmedia.eu has taken down the pdf with the green specifications and the drag coefficient information.

However if taken at face value what Moray Callum said is that the sedan is less aerodynamic than the hatch (0.297 v.s. 0.295), however that was in conflict with what Ford of Europe had officially published listing the sedan at 0.274 a slight reduction in drag over the hatch.

A 13 lb delta between base curb weights is negligible at best, and given that the base hatch was an SE to the S sedan it's even more impressive to note that the more well equipped hatch is just 13 lbs heavier yet is more torsionally stiff.

The slight aerodynamic advantage granted to the sedan is marginal at best as well. Having driven and owned both I still prefer the hatch, but it's a minor shame that we were denied the Estate in favor of the Escape which though based on the same underpinnings as the Focus and Focus Estate suffers from the need to be a sort of soft roader so that the people can sit up high but still drive a station wagon without admitting that's what it is.

Holy smoke, that is what I'm talking about! Love the whole look. What size drop? Very nice!
Thanks mate!
I'd say about 50mm but hard to say the exact drop with 19's but this is compared to stock on 17's
