Yes sir, I also may try buffing the skirts before applying more paint. They're silver but rough feeling so a light sanding may make them pop like I think they should.
Gramps, the fuse able link is there to keep you from burning the car down if the wires were to ground out so the alternator doesn't keep pushing the juice out.
That being said I don't have one on Ole' Yeller. Been running it like that for years lol and I didn't even know about the fuse link and I don't remember seeing one on my stock wire either. You figured it would have popped if it wire got hot enough to melt insulation but it didn't. Just grabbed some 4g wire and made my own harness. It'll be a little tough getting it on the starter since there is little to no room. The factory wire was made to go in this spot. Also be very careful not to over tighten the wires onto the start. The studs are very easy to strip. I stripped them once and had to take a new alternator back just because of that. It also may be easier connecting the wires to the alternator first before bolting it up, if I remember right? Been quite a few years since I been under there.
