You say you could tell it was newer by the tail lamps?

The 99+ is quite a bit different from the 05+ or the '94-'98 cars, by much, much more than just the tail lamps.

Was it squarish or rounded?

I know they are different in more ways than just the tail lights but that is how I could deffinitely tell. They were squarish.

I don't believe you beat the stang, mostly because you say you started the race in 4th at only 70mph? The svtf is weak as hell in that gear at that speed. Even in 3rd gear at 70, you haven't really hit the powerband yet. For that reason, I don't see how you beat a GT

good 4 U^^^^^^^^^^^^

I believe you.
Before I got my new ST, I had an 03 ZTS auto with CAI, Borla Cat back, and a re-flash.
My buddy had a stock 03 Mustang GT 5spd.
From a rolling start at 60, he only pulled 1/2 car length. At about 90 he had the other 1/2, so I tucked in behind him and stayed right there until I backed out at 125.
I know that I was drafting, but he was still shocked that he could not leave me.

From a dig I would have had no chance because of the gears in the auto.

NOw that is BS. The 03 stang stock is almost 300 HP. Even drafting that's impossible.
Either that or your friend is not a good driver.

It only had abut 220 to the wheels though bro, and it weighs in at about 3600 pounds with the driver. Going from a 60 roll would not be that hard to keep up with one. From a dig, it would be a stretch. Those 4.6L SOHC motors are not very powerful and the GTs didnt have a very good power-weight ratio. The new one however kicks the living crap out of last year's. It is lighter, and it comes with more power.

unless the stang was a convertable it's not going to weigh 3600 pounds. the gt's weighed in at around 3250.

and the mustangs p/w ratio would be around 12-ish, while the focus would be in the 15's for p/w

the whole point of this thread was him saying that he beat a mustang. With the mods the SVT focus has on it, he most likely beat it. The 99-04 GT's were slow, that is a fact. The SOHC did them no justice. The Mach1 was fast and so was the cobra, but they had 4 Valve Aluminum head bad boy motors in them, one has a SC on it, lol. I believe he beat it or hung with one that was close to stock.

I was reading the orginal post and looking at his mods, my friends SVTF has about the same mods, and We raced my 96 mustang GT (the really slow years) against his 2003 SVTF from about a 45mph roll, and we stopped at about 95mph and I had about 1 1/2 cars on his SVTF, his SVT focus ran 15.5 at 91mph in the 1/4. He also has a 2000 mustang GT and when it was mostly stock (exhaust and intake) it ran 13.9 at 100mph in the 1/4. I really find it hard to beleive that all of you are saying you can beat Mustang GT's Easy. Somehow I think most of its BS, and my friend with the SVTF will agree.

Well to add my little bit of mustang experiences, ive had 3 good highway races with mustang gt's

the first was against an auto 96 over the course of about 10-12 miles and every time, no run started at less than 65 and i always dropped to the appropriate gear, i had no problems walking this guy all the way up to 135-140 where i stopped, the faster i went the more cars id pull but it was usually just a few carsto 115-120 and then as i maxed out 5th i was just walking hard

the second was havin fun over the course of about 60 miles against an 00-04gt, i did have 3 people total plus a little luggage and he had nothing, but it was definitely a 5speed and the only time i ever looked good was from maybe 65-90 id hold on, but he walked me very badly everytime, tune or no a properly driven 5speed gt wouldnt have any problem with an svtf based on that experience and this was like probably 20 pulls from highway speeds

the third was pretty embarrasing for me, i ran into a 91 5.0 and i was just beating the shit out of this guy on highway speeds and i was all proud because id been hoping to run into a 5.0 that wanted to run on the highway forever but it never happened, well at any rate we get off at the same exit and catch a red light(mind you he looked stock) and we're talking out hte windows for a minute and i asked him if he was trying on the highway and hes like nah not at all do you wanna run from a dig? well i though he was being sore but when he revved i knew i was gonna get my ass handed to me, i got him off the line but once he got traction he put proably 10 cars on me, it was sad
