Sorry guys, I'll race my friend next weekend. It was raining tonight, and for some reason its going to F#$*ing snow this weekend!

GA GT, I know I can beat those. I've taken one from a dig going up an incline of all things. This one race was the absolute best because the GA driver had his girl in the passenger seat and she was staring me down and laughing like a little bia-tch when he peeled out. I smoked him by about six cars when we hit the next light. I was hanging out the window waiting for them to catch up just so I could ask the girl if she still thought the shit was so funny. GA GT's = POOP! They are poser muscle cars for guys who are too domesticated for real muscle cars or for guys that can't afford a real car. Or for your parents maybe....GA w/ a V6 would be a great car for mom [:D]

I beat one in my Xterra even [rolleyes]

Hey Slowbird, thanks for the info

I think a lot of people think these cars are alot more than what they are, speed wise, because of how torquey the engines are (the one good thing about OHV). I bought a '96 GT new back in '95 and it certainly felt good off the line but the fun stopped at about an 1/8th mile. All due to HP being required to sustain what all that torque just gave you plus the fact that these cars are not light by any means equals=great off the line but quick to reel in after that.

[rofl] [rofl] I love races like that!! HAHA, great story!! I had a similar thing happen with a Civic in my 5.0, except the girl was quite vocal in calling me a bitch cause I wasnt gonna race him. So I smoked him by about 10 bus lengths!!! Girl wasnt laughing anymore![:D]

It has nothing to do with te OHV having no top end.

175hp is quite a bit of top end power.

...and the Grand AM isn't a Poser muscle car. It's a Family Sedan.

On that note...it's the Automatic Transmission that kills the power. The motor itself is enough to make the car fast...but the Auto tranny kills the power. If they had 3.4L 5-Speed Grand Ams they would be great sport Sedans.

The Lumina Z34 came with a limited amount of 5-Speed Manual transmission with the 3400.

That car was massive and it did a 14.9 from the factory.

Don't underestimate the Over-Head-Valve Motors. My buddy in his SVT Focus underestimated my Sunbird when he got his car...and my $200 car, beat his $26,000CDN Focus.

Not what I was implying at all, I hope that statement didn't come across that way.
The SVTF is actually teh Euro Hawtness [thumb]
Grand Am GT.....Like I said earlier it's a nice car for Mum (My mom has one of those POS BTW, a 99' or 00' IIRC). We ran that car against my 00' Xterra for shits n' giggles and the GT lost but my X was sorta / kinda modified too if that counts for anything.

I ran a gagt tonight and he got me off of the line "I overestemated my new tires" but it was a very good run. He got that one strike one up for the pontiac. as far as the car to car I gave up 1/2 a car lenth to wheelspin and then 1/2 winding up the tall first gear in second gear I started pulling up just slightly and we were shutting down once we hit third.

Id like to have a do over on that one but that's how it goes. If I had drove like I should have it would have been a tight race. I have no Idea if the gata was modified but it is a good run any way

I'm a little late to the party on this thread, but last year I had a Grand Am GT as a rental car - it was fun for a change of pace (got to be lazy and let the car do the shifting for once), and I liked the better off-the-line bite it had compared to my Focus but it ran out of breath pretty quick. I could definitely feel the difference in freeway passing moves, it *sounded* great but for all the screaming it was not going as fast as my SVT would have been going.

Don't get me started on the interior, though... blech! [xx(] Plus one of the dumbest placements I've ever seen for a trunk release (facing away from the driver so you have to feel for it, unless you have the door open, then you can actually see it).

I'm such a nerd, I actually photographed that for posterity. Looking at the picture it may not seem that big of a deal, but imagine sitting in the driver's seat with the door closed - it's impossible to see the trunk release. Just poor design IMO. Not to mention the exposed Philips head screw in the door handle area. That's the kind of thing that made the Grand Am way overdue for replacement. And ironically the much better G6 that replaces it, is not popular.

Those cars are quick. My mom had an 99 for 3 years. Once you use the trunk release a few times you don't fumble for it. Anyway like I said, it was quick off the line and on the highway it handled great and could move if you floored it. Gotta love Pontiac Ram-Air.

Well being that someone dug this thread up I would like to address this:

What about the "Ram Air" models with the hood scoops and the rear spoiler? Not something often found on an N/A release family sedan. I think that these cars are being bought by guys that have to own up and be responsible in regards to being older, family types, but still aren't ready to sell out 100% just yet.

I'll continue to do my part to convince each of them that their next auto purchase should be an SUV or mini van every time they try and own me in one of those G/A's. That's not saying that I go around looking for them to beat up on either. Just out of all the more common vehicle types on the road I have noticed more G/A owners driving like they have something to prove than other cars.

the sc/t ram air hood is just for looks.. correct...

mine is not a SVT its just a zx3

so was he just playing with me??
yes he was playing you. I am a former GAGT1 owner. All I had done was an intake, eibach springs, decent rubber, and , that was it.

A ZX3 stock would in NO WAY take em....NO WAY. Unless his subs were 34892739482 lbs.

Stock the 99+ GAGT w/3400 motor has gotten as low as 15.4sec in the 1/4 STOCK MAN!
