When I first started looking into svt's back in like november of 04 (Think they were still selling the 04's at that point) I was looking for problems with them and of course the tsb on the clutch came up tons of times. I have researched this enough to the point I would know the symptoms and the stories of others who have gone through it.

Recently (within the last week) I noticed a very faint rattle coming from down by the tranny, and when i push the clutch in (not like all the way engaged, just in a couple inches) it goes away.

I had a service appointment for 8am today, and the guy said it would take a few days to tear it down and inspect everything, so he called enterprise. Just as enterprise pulled up on a v6 escape (which I was looking forward to trying out) the service manager told me to hold up a minute. He said they are so busy right now it wouldnt be till about wednesday till they could tear it down and get it reassembled. He said he didnt like this because his workers are with the union and might go on strike if they dont agree to whatever salary/plan they offered.

I got red flags for two reasons...A: I am leaving for Jetfest with my parents friday...B: I dont want my little svt in pieces inside this shop waiting for guys to come off strike. He said he thinks it is the throw-out bearing, but obviously wouldnt know for sure till they tore it down. I mentioned the TSB, and he said he looked it up and my car ALREADY HAD IT DONE! I was pretty shocked to hear that... I bought this car back in january with 17k on it, and guess I just never thought to check if it had been done. I am kind of hoping they open her up to find it was their parts fault, and dont try to blame me with normal clutch wear and slap me with a 1k dollar bill. I am not hard on my clutch (have a few hard launches, but other than that I am gentle on her until it is fully engaged)

I think I am going to go search some more clutch stories...but for those of you who had it done once, or who didnt get it covered under warranty, what was the total cost? I remember reading a few people just went with aftermarket because it was nearly the same price as the OE ford one...so if it does end up coming out of my pocket I will probably go aftermarket. (gives me a good reason to put a blower on it once warranty is up ;) )

Since I just dumped about 1200 into the car (mostly with tires/wheels) I am really hoping they cover everything under warranty. I have a feeling if it is the throw-out bearing, wont that have caused wear on the pressure plate and or other parts, requiring those to be replaced as well?

Sorry for the long rant, finally get my car looking beautiful and she has to break on me :(

Thanks, I am going to wait till the monday after jetfest and then take it in...I would be mad to not have my car for jetfest and have to only take my dads 01 stock se...wait wait...its not stock, i forgot I put a shorty antenna on it. Watch out car show...my dad will take you all!

[rolleyes]

I had the TSB done at 31k miles, and they gave me 1year/12k mile warranty along with it. It was completely covered under warranty, and they had it done it 2 days, replacing ALL of the parts on the TSB list.

A few days later however, I lost 5th and 6th gear...the outer shift cable had come loose, but the dealer took care of that.

Just take it easy on the new clutch, and give it a few hundred miles break in before you get too crazy on it...

ROck on

Yes, this TSB has been updated at least a few times I think. So it's possible they performed the old TSB, which did not tell them to use updated parts (because the updated parts hadn't been developed/released yet).

My dealer tried to tell me it was the throwout bearing as well. They replaced that and gave the car back to me, and it still made the same noise. I gave it a few weeks and then took it back in, with a printed out copy of the latest TSB and they finally did what the TSB says to do. Since then, I have noticed very *slight* noise but nothing like before and it sounds like a noise that could be passed off as just normal transmission noise (it is an economy car, after all).

I got mine done at 6,000 although it was making noise at 3,000. A little left over noise is okay according to the "SVT specialist" at my dealer. It's residual noise from movement in the dual mass flywheel. I always mention it when I get my car service so that if my clutch/flywheel transmission goes nova, there will be a note that I had a concern.

I'm almost past my 36K warranty and having a "rattling" problem. When I'm starting out in 1st and letting the clutch out I sometimes hear a rattle. It doesn't do it all the time and I worry if I do take it into the dealership then the won't be able to "recreate" the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks.
