well, as i type my about 3 coat of black is drying right now on my grill.

i just taped off the center of the grill where the air flows through and where the ford symbol is mounted (ford symbol is taken out as i paint) i couldnt get the 2 pieces to come apart so i felt it would provide just as good results taping everything off.

the paint im using is interior/exterior black krylon paint, not the fusion kind, but i kinda wish it was, but its the can that says dries in 12mins and has the smoothest finish, i know over time this cannot be protected by the UV rays etc of everyday car use cleaning and driving etc. so i am also going to use car rated clear coat i got from the local car parts store, its used on cars and is for cars to protect the paint it goes over. so i will asume this will help protect the paint from everyday use and abuse from the sun and when i clean my car just about every week.

ill post pictures. and i took pictures of the disasemmble also and of curse give credit for it, but may make a how to thread (hopefully sticky) for this how to.

I guess I should throw a before and after picture too...
it really lets you see the difference it makes. there is someone else i'm trying to get to do it, and if he does i'll post a step by step picture how-to if he lets me do it. The car is a lease so i don't know

OMG, like 13x better just with a simple DIY paint job!

honhon, I think car-grade clear is a good call, a few coats of that should help protect against UV and rock chips, all that.
thx.

well as always it takes me FOREVER to do anything and its day 2 doing the grill painting, BUT its coming along VERY nicely.

here are some teaser pics:

heres the strange looking front end without the grill:

what really slowed me down was actually my dad's advice.... and b/c the clearcoat took forever to dry between each coat. but im glad i am taking my time and taking my dad's advice on the clear coat. i actually used the entire black can and the entire clear can on this project with using only 800 or 1200 grit sand paper to smooth rough areas. so this paint better last! [}:)]

hopefully ill have finish pictures tonight!

the last clear coat is on it right now and drying in my cool room right now. i noticed the clear coat didnt like to dry in 90+ F temps so its in my cool 77F room right now, kinda stinks up my room and the entire house but it'll be well worth it in the end. im gonna let it dry good for a couple of hours sinse its the last coat. then im gonna peal off the masking tape and put the ford symbol back on and then put it back on my car. hopefully ill have pictures around 5 or 6pm tonight! Just to make my life easier, how to take off the grille?

IDK I think it looks wierd on honhon's car, just because that's almost too much black on the front of a silver car. I think it would look better on a darker colored car...
yeah i know what ya mean. thats why i said i will have to get used to it, it wasnt what i expected, but hey whats done is done. lol

and to tim: its pretty easy to take it off. there are 3 platic screws holding that top piece with the radiator filling instructions on it. and then there are 2 bolts actually holding the grill on. and then pull it straight forward and it'll come out.
