I found it weird that there are no how tos what so ever on this site. Perhaps I should make one lol. The top doesnt look that bad. At least not in the video
Huh? Are you pulling my alternator leg? Tons of how-to's here at FF. They are hidden at the top of all/most forum pages!

Here is one index of helpful stuff ->

Many more around, to include Alt replacement how-to's.

Cheers!

I know it's not a Focus, but when my Lancer's alternator went it did very similar things. I was driving down the road and it would shut off, the idle sucked, gas mileage drop, it also threw all sorts of codes like the timing belt snapped but it was just the alternator. Get those checked bro!

I seriously must be dumb or blind. On the full how to section all I see is something about alternator clips. I looked at that same list last night.

I've been through 3 alternators in one of my SVT's and only once did I get a CEL. It was 1518.

Most of the time it just kills the battery and dies. First your radio makes a high pitch whine, then eventually your instruments go and minutes later the car will die.

Ford should recall the alternator in the focus every single one I've ever gone across has had it replaced at least once. I'd consider adding the clutch master cylinder and MIRC cable pulley to that list as well. Rarely do these parts last a reasonable service life.

The salt on the wound is 1. The alternator is a pain in the ass to replace and 2. You can't buy new ones from ford. The one I bought from tousley was a reman (like all dealers) and it died 2 months out of warranty.

I'd recommend a new aftermarket alternator. CFM sells one for less than fords reman, I've been running it for about 3 years with no problems.

Thanks guys. I'm getting the factory one rebuilt. I got a guy that builds alternators for audio builds so I'm sure he can build us a good one and even add a little power. Thanks for the help.

Local rebuilt is the BEST deal for these, cheaper & no horror stories of replacing "lifetime" guaranteed ones 2 or 3 times to get one to work.

Excellent!

Thank god I got the alternator out. Pulled it out the top too. Seemed the most logical way to go to me.
