OK, so this may have been covered a few times--spare that comment...[:)]

What is the best, most cost effective way to improve throttle response and quicken those sluggish revs on the SVT???
My dad's 04 GTO revs very quickly and has awesome response. When I get back to driving my car, I'm frustrated with how slow my SVT's RPMs are. I like to heel-and-toe and rev prior to downshift a lot, so this is especially maddening for me. I'm inclined to think a 4-cylinder should rev as quick as or quicker than a frickin' V-8. because of the reduced mass. Then again, 400hp is a little more than 170hp. haha...I've seen the idle air restrictors, 65mm throttle bodies, and intakes, but do these parts make enough difference?

ps. Once again, don't tell me I need to buy a Tom's Tune or a Diablo or any OBD II device [paranoid]

Any info is mucho appreciado. Or however you say it. El Camino. Adios.
I don't really speak Espanol. Later ~ aaron

A lightweight flywheel and clutch will greatly increase how fast your revs move, but dude, get a flash, that's THEE best mod you can do man.

You car revs like crap because the SVTF runs lean as heck at lower RPMs. Any aftermarket tune will sweeten up the lower RPMs and make it possible for your car to rev up. Tom pegged it immediately, he knows what he's talking about and you're going to have to spend $345-$515 to get your car running right. The SVT comes with a pretty sweet hardware setup but the tune is junk (think emissions.)

SPEND THE $345-$515, GET THE TUNE, IT'S THE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK YOU CAN GET.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of....hahah...well anyway, I was curious as to how many possibilities there were other than the tune, but evidently the consensus is in its favor. Ah well, looks like I know where a half of my paycheck is going to be going in the near future. BTW, does a tune void the warranty? I guess it can be undone prior to any service or whatever, but...thoughts? Thanks again for the info guys, even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear :p Later!

Rule of thumb: "A modification only voids the manufacturer's warranty if, and only if, the modification can be inexplicably proven as the direct cause of the problem that is under consideration." [:)]

ah..after 12 bears, bausdwizer sedeltcst -...i say..you need to get a lightgtned fliywheels for fastwer reves..but to vrooom vroom you needs em or you could just say vroom vrooom ITS FRIDAY B=PARTY!

The slow revs are due to the dual mass flywheel, that info is from ford so there is no debating it. So by getting a lighter fly wheel it would make it more rev happy. The poor throttle response is due to the t/b, you could get a new t/b for around $250 and gain 1-2hp and better throttle response or you can do a search to find the how-to and port the stock one your self. Yes a tune helps, and yes I know you didn't want to hear that but my point in bringing it up is with the dual mass fly wheel and the stock t/b with the big bump in the middle of it a tune can not over come the actuall hardware of the car (t/b and flywheel), it can only improve on what is there.

Also a 04 GTO runs around $30K grand and is pushing over 350hp and 365lbs of tq so to compare one of them to a SVT Focus is insane.

I drove an 05 GTO and Corvette last weekend. Both have 400 hp and both rev quicker than my SVT with the current mods I have listed.

I agree with Sidney, port your TB. Its as cheap as it gets and does about the same thing as an aftermarket piece. Next up in price would be an UDP. I got mine for $36 shipped, so keep an eye on the classifieds. After that, the next best bang for the buck mod would be the flash. Actually, the flash is the best IMO, but it also costs more than the other two things I'm recommending. At any rate, your throttle response will be GREATLY improved with those three mods.

Light weight flywheel and FC 65 mm throttle body will help quite a lot, but you will have to get a tune if you really want it to respond with the quickness!

I have to agree, there is absolutely no comparisson between the 2. The reason the GTO spins up so quickly is due the the fact that it is pumping out 365 lb/ft of torque, far more than enough to make the engine wind up with the quickness!

I also agree with the other post's, a light weight flywheel, UDP, bigger TB, and a tune will work wonders for it, it will rev up much quicker! Not to mention set you back in the seat when you get on it! hehehe

EDIT: I wonder how much power you free up when you go to an aluminum flywheel and drop over 10 pounds of rotating mass. I would think there would be some gain there in the lower RPM's when accelerating due to the fact that the engine isn't having to work as hard as it did when it had 10+ more pounds to spin up, making it a little easier for the engine to turn the gears. Any thought's no this?

Here's another option. Go down to your local Suzuki dealership and buy a brand new Hyabusa, take out the engine and install a turbo. hire some custom shop to mate it to your transmission and there you go. lighter, higher revving, faster revving, more power.

yes, i know, i'm retarded.

Yes, but you won't make a ton of torque and you'd have to wind the car up to go anywhere...might get kind of tiring.
