So I've been reading a lot of posts around here regard Foci overheating and having weak A/C and it dawned on me that the problem may lie with the grille shutters. A lot of people also seem to think that a problem with the DCT is that the clutches can't handle excess heat well. Has anyone here tried removing the shutters? Besides a dip in fuel economy would it cause any other problems? I can't imagine the car overheating because they were removed, unless that somehow messes with the programming of the other cooling components.

I always used the A/C in my car (Auto on at 22 C = 71.6 F) and I was able to get 39.6 mpg at a steady 65 mph speed in a long trip. You imply that I might even get better mpg => 43 mpg if I'd not use A/C ? This is almost 5 mpg above the EPA and we all know in what conditions EPA tests are done. If I'd go at a 55 mph speed, I am sure even 43 with A/C on would be reachable, if the drive would be long enough.

Yes, that is correct, if your "auto" setting is cycling the compressor. It takes power to run the A/C compressor. All other things equal (windows up), you will of course get better gas mileage with the compressor off vs. on.

May I ask where this info came from , the AC only looses 1hp when it is running ?
The more RPM that it turns the more power it takes to tune it , I think they take about 7hp at idle cruise and about 12-14 HP at max psi then the hotter it is the more psi it builds so the more HP to turn it
