does it not come with instructions??? You don't need a bypass vavle, unless you plan on driving in lots and lots of rain and puddles. If you don't get a lot of rain and don't drive into puddles that will submerge that filter, then you should be ok. However, ill get you a link to the AEM CAI install how-to...its the same as the BOMZ, or should be close

http://www.myfordfocus.com/how-to/aem-cai.htm

thats how to install an AEM CAI, its the same thing as an AEM, pretty much

Unless you are gonna drown that thing in water you don't need one, just be more cautious when driving in big puddles. My friend got one of his cylinders full of water by going through some he gunned it right before the puddle and bam motor died on him, so other that that you should be fine.

you can get water in the engine without submerging the filter, and you can get water in the engine with a bypass. If you must run a cai, a bypass is a good idea, you simply cut a section out and replace it with the bypass.

It only opens when the filter is completely stopped, like for example when it's under water, then the bypass engages and sucks air in thru it rather than sucking all that water straight up like a drinking straw. But, you can get hydrolock from a couple teaspoons of water that can run up from a big splash or constant road spray, even if it doesn't go underwater, and in such a case, the bypass will not open.

I hydrolocked, with a cai, with a bypass, without hitting any puddles, just from roadspray in a moderate rain. I now run only short-ram or a cai with water protection.

squatch, what do you think about the weather shield?? Think it would help with a lot of the road spray? I dont' have a CAI but i might considerate in the future, i hate dead stop launches with my short ram. I always thought you would have to submerge the filter to suck up any water...

haha we had two weather shields on the cars before they became something you could buy. I think they work for spray, but not for submersion. After weighing the pro's and con's of both, I'm back to a short ram. I don't think the bomz is completely worthless, they just haven't addressed the problem of the lower mount cracking. the last few months mine was on it was bunjee'd up. haha. But that's the price you pay for having a cheaper version, they work on volume and don't care if there's a better way to build it. Volant is better, but 6x the price, no need to bash someone who can't afford it.

just trying to help them a ways down the road :) well i wasn't trying to say the shield would work for submersion :p hahaah, but for spray it woul dbe great, as long as you could miss puddles you'd be fine, i hope

ya, I grew up in seattle, now live in oklahoma. We get more rain here than there, but it only rains about 20 days a year, which means 5"+ at a time. So missing puddles here isn't as easy as it would seem.

sorry I wasn't tryin to jump on anyone, I just know that the kid just bought it, tryin to be supportive. ;)

I installed the intake today..it was pretty easy actually... the only problem i ran into was the lower mounting bracket..it doesnt match up with anyhting to screw it down...it really suprised me it sounds good...does anyone have ne suggestions about nething else i could do to my car without making it to flashy..or any site suggestions where they have nothing but focus parts????

the bottom bracket is supposed to go to one of those rubber thingy's they should have supplied. nut it to the bracket, then stick the other end of the rubber deal into the bottom of the radiator support and nut it there too. It will break, down there at the weld where the bracket meets the pipe at the bottom, they all do. I skipped the bracket on the last one I installed, and ran a bunjee cord from the radiator support, around the pipe just above the filter, once around and up to the fender well (some open hole there) It's been on there that way for nearly a year and is actually a little more solid than I had imagined it would be. The bunjee is not pulling up or down or side to side, it's just wrapped and both ends extend out straight, so as to hold it in place.

good luck, hope you like the cai

there were two of the rubber things and the first one mounted up where it was supposed to but the bottom one is supposed to mount to the sub frame and there isnt a hole there to attach it so i left it like it is for now i figure ill have to drill a hole in the subframe...oh well what can u expect for 36 bucks lol...and the bottom bracket is at an angle which is pretty weird so i dont know if they just manufactured them wrong or what

hmm weird, think u got it put together right? crap now i gotta look for a pic. haha. mine came around the head, went forward then straight forward and down just in front of the trans and went towards the drivers side just at the last second. The lower mount came to the end of the radiator mount... maybe they changed it. Hmm, maybe I put mine together wrong. haha.

Pretty sure he's implying that the interior diameter is different, because that's what somebody said was "a problem" with bomz vs aem, but it is the same inside dia at that point as the factory maf. Nothing to worry about imo. Pipe is a pipe is a pipe. :D
