I know I know, use whats in the manual for Warranty. But on a serious note, 5W20; is it much better suited for the TiVCT engine? I would like 5W30 but I know the 20 was for the Fleet Avg Fuel Econ. Anyone with oil knowledge want to weigh in?

BTW also accepting oil recommendations.
Brand and Weight. Prefer Syns.
Conditions here are 90F+ summers and moderate highway speeds with some city stop and go.

I run mobil 1 5w-20. The 5w-30 is just a little thinker so it would mainly only hurt fuel economy if anything.

agreed. I dont run mine hard but its pretty spirited when I do. and forgive me but Im a first time forum user. I used search but didnt get the same results page as you. Alot of those are for Zetecs, which is much different from the TiVCT amirite?

It's a grocery getter. There is no use for a higher viscosity, period.

I have the lowest wear ppm/best UOAs on the site....all done with 5W-20.

5w30 won't hurt. Bob is the oil guy forums repeatedly show this. It is used in the ST due to the higher abuse of forced induction. You may or may not see a difference in fuel mileage (1-2mpg max maybe). See how friendly your dealer is.

The most important thing is to monitor your oil level.

I got 5w-30 in there right now. No problems, fuel economy is fine and I drive like a maniac.

^^^^^^^ This.

It won't help unless you drive in the desert (Very High temps), at sustained (Track) high RPM's or are running boost or nitrous.

It won't hurt anything but your mileage and won't help at all for anything else. If you live in a very cold climate, it will actually hurt.

The key is film strength and that, all other things being equal, is adequately provided for with 5w-20 weight oil in our engines.
