I think you actually lose horsepower doing that because your sucking in the hot air from the engine compartment. If any gains at all, it is MUUUCCCHHH less than 10, I'd say 1hp at the most.

^^^ No I don't think you would lose HP with the hose. I'm not entirely sure you would lose without the hose. The resinator is on the far side of the airbox which is directly opposite the engine. An unmodified Volant basically pulls air from about the same location.

Just FYI, an intake on our cars basically give about 5HP if you have a good intake. If you click on the link in my sig it will take you to my webpage which has dyno plots of a Zetec with and without a Volant intake so you can see the performace boosts yourself.

You car is rated at 130 HP at the CRANK. Any time you dyno a car after it leaves the factory you get HP at the WHEELS. So my car had 95HP at the wheels and 130 HP at the crank.

You might get more or less depending on your transmission (manuals have more hp at the wheels) and how well tuned your cams were from the factory.

LOL, no, what's really depressing is looking at the number without the SAE adjustment. I live in Albuquerque NM and we are above 5,000 feet. Without the SAE correction for HP my car produced 76HP at the wheels. Now THAT'S depressing :)

SAE is an adjustment you make on the HP/TRQ numbers to remove all the variables like current air temperature, altitude, current humidity, etc. All of thoes things change the HP/TRQ of the car. In order to look at a number that is universally true you look at the number with an SAE adjustement.

It's math done on the numbers when you put your car on a dyno to remove all the variables. It's not something you physically do to the car. The software you use to look at the data usually has a pull down menu of all the different standards there are for displaying HP/TRQ.

Yea, most of us don't actaully own a dyno since they are like $15,000. Hopefully there is a shop in your area that has one that you can buy time on. It's usually sold on a per pull basis up to a certain amount and then the shops rent the dyno hourly. The dyno here in town is $50 for 1 pull, $65 for 2, and then $80/hour. 1 hour = about 4 pulls.

actually, u can get alot more than 4 pulls in an hr.-Osiris.. when i went up there 2 Dyno Edge i made i think close to 13!! and that's while tuning my cam gears...that reminds me, i still need 2 post my dyno up here..lol and on cardomain...(sorry that off topic hehe)

ok that sounds great, but I live in montgomery AL, I don';t know of any place they would have a dyno. plus I don't know a whole lot about tuning cars. I saw an add on tv for a computer tuner for diesel trucks that has 5 setting for hp and torque intensity, is there anything like that for foci? something I can plug in hit a couple buttons and have more power? if so how much would I pay, and where would I get it?

lanting90: The 4 pulls/hr figure came from Chris at DynoEdge. I haven't had a reason to buy by the hour yet. 13 sounds like too many. Usually you need a 5 minute cool down between pulls to make sure you are getting good readings. You can't even get 13 cool down periods in 1 hour [:)]

focusmuscle02: I would suggest checking out the "Regional Forums" and make a post in the forum that you belong in and ask about a dyno in your area. You don't really have to know anything about tuning when you hit a dyno. The dyno operator does all the tuning/data gathering. The Focus does have something that can adjust tuning on the fly kind of like what you saw on TV. Here is a link to one of the nicer tuner chips for the Focus : http://focussport.com/chip.htm
There are other chips out there so shop around and find what's best for you.

haha, actually what happened was he made 3 basline runs one after the other witch were all consistant. Then he let me adjust teh gears, since they'd never done anything like it before on a foci. He'd make a run and i'd adjust it, then he made another, so tecnically...i made like 10 tunning runs. It only takes like1-2 min. to make a run then likeanother 3-5 min to adjust the gears...now that i think about it, when ever i would go and change teh gear settings, the operator would go off and do sumthin else, and i'd be waiting for like 5 min, so maybe thats why it only cost 100 bukz, either that or they gave a one hell of a deal. They said it took a little over an hr. so i'm not to sure...o well results came out fine anyways...
