I don't think the SVT has a cast mount there. That may be a picture of a different model.

Look at the pics again and you'll understand. That fisrt pic is not an SVT.

Ok, well, I'm kickin in a little late, but count me in on this 2nd gear shifting problem. It's only happened to me about three times. From what I remember, two of them were when I was turning left from a stop, getting on the straight and shifting at about 7000 rpm...the shifter went all the way into the gate, but when i let go of the clutch, nothing. I KNOW that it wasn't driver error....something was messed up...anyways, it only happened those two or three times i believe...hasn't happened since then. My theory is that it could have something to do with shifting in/right after a turn?!?!?

First part deleted. See "EDIT" below.

SVTmonkey:
So, we're now up to 6 of us with '04s and 2nd gear "anomalies".
Very curious about the surrounding circumstances when it happens.
I.E. Close to redline shift, coming out of a turn.

WD40, if you're going to take the time to bash me in the open forum at least read all of my posts.
I swear it's people like you that vote for Kerry.

You're the one that jumped in with the DRIVER ERRROR comment in the first place,
bashing eurosvtgm and thefrush in an open forum.

I for one take great offense to that statement as well,
but will be the first to admit when I have made a driver error.
In this case, that's not what's happening at all.
Kerry? Where in the heck did that come from.

PS. Thanks very much to those of you that checked the mount! [;)]
At least we may be able to rule that plate out as the culprit.
Course, now the question is, where else to look.[???:)]

EDIT:
RockyNBullwinkle is correct about the swaybar install thread.
In fact, I think that's Celldweller's Mach Audio Sedan, according the color of the car in this pic.
Doh, and Shady's statement in thishttp://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=323988&#post323988 post.
When he first put that up, I noticed the difference in the mount, and it had been bugging me ever since.
Sorry to steer you guys in the wrong direction.
Dang. That cast mount does look stronger though.

Alright before I hurt too many peoples feelings I'll stay on topic. If you look at ALL of the pics in that write up, the car is an orange color NOT a Pitch Black car by any means.

Here's one of the pics. Another one shows the wheel well and it's also a bronze or gold color.

EDIT:
***DELETED***

Yes it does look stronger. But I've never experienced a problem with 2nd not catching properly. Yes I'm very hard on my car at times, I don't beat on it all the time. Anytime that I'm flying around a corner and slam 2nd the wheels chirp. Very positive feel. Dunno, I guess I'm bias because I know mine has never done it. No reason to attack everyone else though, sorry for that.

This is a well known problem with 2004 SVT models. It's not driver error.

High revs going from first to second sporadically cause it to miss the gear.

Ford is being stingy about the repairs since it could be a problematic trans but if you swap out the shifter I am told the problem stops.

I too am driving an 04 SVTF and have experienced a problem getting into 2nd at high rpm. I have experienced it autocrossing. I don't believe that the shift lever moves into position for 2nd. I am not able to move it to 2nd at all. In 20000 miles, it happend around four times. I assumed that it might have something to do with bi-mass flywheel or the engine management keeping revs high between shifts.

well last night i was racing somone and my 04 svt done the miss second two times in a row its done it before to but like everyone else only while racing coming of first at a high rpm so im gonna try tonight and shift at a lower rpm and see if it helps. it sucks when it happens and the other vehicle jsut flys on down that you should have waxed!!1:( and i have a steeda tri-ax/f sts so its not the shifter i dont think as someone else said would get rid of the problem.

NO, What you need is to learn how to drive. HOW THE H3LL DO YOU MISS 2nd??

I don't even think it's possible to miss 2nd. Someone tag in here that's been driving various manual trannies for a while. Stop Double clutching and it'll fix that problem.
I've missed 2nd gear way too many times in races. It seems like you have to be lucky for it to engage [bash]

By the way, double clutching is for cars without a synchronized transmission, idiot.

I also have an 04 SVT with the same issues. WOT 1st gear almost redline and bam you go to shift into second and it does not catch. Thats okay bc im getting new mounts this week so i can get some real racing done. Oh and if you dont have an SVT then you dont know what were talking about so dont say were bad drivers....

I did have the problem whenever i first bought the car.

I just got used to it. you need to find the sweet spot and you'll never miss.

The rear transmission mount helps a little. if you decide to go that route,

just buy the inserts from Steeda they are only like $15 or something.

All you need to do with is take out the whole lower tranny mount(on the tranny) - 2 bolts. It attaches the tranny to frame.

If you have access to a hydrolic press this will help the process. The bushings that are in the metal mount come out(with a little finese).

The new ones from steeda kinda slide in there. just show a little love they'll go.

The toughest problem is if your by yourself. cause obviously you need to support the transmission during this process. It can be tricky to get the holes
to line up.

I think it took me 45 mins to do the whole thing. $15 dollars well spent.

I'm pretty sure the lower mount "bushings" are still on their website.

Many people have had those inserts pop out.

If you're going to the trouble of removing the mount in the first place,
you may as well bolt in a whole new mount.
