Mike, it's post #66, and it worked GREAT on my wife's Cruze. BWAAHAAHAA!
haha... yeah I read it again, I see whats going on. The first time I was just skimming through making sure no one earned themselves a warning.

Actually we have never seen so many negative posts (from new members!) until the third generation was released...my input on that. Not sure why. There are, however, more first time car/new car buyers than previous model years I have noticed. why? I'm not sure... but with that in mind, a good majority DON'T know much if anything about cars yet. Is there a correlation? maybe. [dunno]
Woo! Someone else notices!

In general, you may be right, but in this particular thread, it was mostly 1st and 2nd gen guys taking sarcastic (hazing type) shots.

drive it like you stole it for the first couple hundred miles is how i break in new motors

always believed break it in like you are gonna drive it

The real benefit to an engine break in comes at open throttle in a HIGH gear. This creates pressure in the cylinder for a longer period, properly seating the rings...this "bogging" is actually forcing the motor to work the hardest in the most beneficial way. I am sure I'll get different opinions here, but thats how its done on crate motors at the speed shops...

I thought it was a given that the transmission needed to learn its parameters so I didnt touch on that.
It only "learns" when the tech first performs either the initial programming, or after a Re-flash. There is a process that the tech performs where the car is put through different scenarios, including acceleration, deceleration, stops and starts etc...Once that is done though, so is the "learning" the trans does. From there on out all you can do control how the transmission shifts is related to clutch break in (the suddering people experience can be "cured" by putting the car through its paces according to many members here.)
