Hello!
I hope you can help me solve a problem for my car:
2002 Ford Focus
SE Wagon 4-Door
2.0L 1989CC 121Cu. In. l4 GAS DOHC Naturally Aspirated
ZETEC engine
The problem is the low fuel efficiency, 10 mpg.
I will show you the context of the status of the vehicle, the work that has been done, imperfections / obvious faults, and suspicions of problems.
Less than 2 weeks ago I changed the engine to my vehicle, hoping that this would solve several other faults, and the low fuel consumption, but it has not improved the consumption.
Observations of mechanics:
* Vacuum lines (a mechanic told me that air leak is heard below, in some line of vacuum, and that some of them look worn and very soft)
* A engine cooling fan is very weak, this causes the motor to not cool properly when the A/C is off (above 105 degrees celsius with 1 fan), and it cools well with the A/C on ( 84 - 96 degrees celsius).
* Currently the ECU does not show any error code, and the check engine light is off.
Before the engine change, the ECU showed the error codes: P1506, P1132, P0172, P1507, but they all disappeared with the change of engine and the new IAC valve.
* Apparently, the fuel consumption increases much more than expected when the A/C is turned on, noise is heard on the A/C compressor while working.
* The previous engine worked a lot of time generating enough smoke and oil spoiled, which could cut the life of the catalytic converter, which is the original of the car.
* There is an apparent electrical discharge from one of the spark plug wires, and ECU values of voltage for spark plugs varies.
* When I connect the scanner, I can see a high variation of the vacuum, between 15 - 24, and some goes down to 3 and goes up quickly, but it is not stable (I can send photos of the raw values shown by the scanner).
* When the engine is cold, the car accelerates a lot when it is turned on, and then lowers to a more or less normal speed. When the engine is already hot, it almost does not do this, or does it on a smaller scale.
* When filling the fuel tank, usually the pump at the gas station stops and you have to slowly fill the tank, being careful not to spill fuel.
Before changing the fuel pump it was worse, since the car emitted a strong smell of fuel after filling it, and the engine became unstable, stopping; this no longer happens with the new fuel pump (it was changed together with its container).
A mechanic told me there could be a problem with the canister, but it was not verified.
New parts / good condition:
* IAC valve (new) - before and after changing the engine showed the IAC error code.
* New oil, fuel and transmission filters.
* New thermostat
* Cooling radiator was cleaned a short time ago and was in very good condition, and clean.
* New fuel pump (the previous one was bad)
* New engine mounts
* Steering and suspension system in good condition.
* New and balanced front wheels.
* Engine replaced, for one used but in much better condition, there are no apparent oil leaks anywhere.
1) Any ideas of what I can do to drastically improve fuel efficiency?
2) If you can tell me where I can get the service manual for my vehicle, and a site where the standard parameters of the ECU are shown ??
Thanks for your help!
