I have two problems.

First, when I open my hatch after a car wash or rain, water runs off the hatch into the cargo area.

Second, when I take it to the car wash or it rains, water leaks into the cargo area. I had hail damage right after I bought the car and the body shop shows they removed and replaced the hatch, that might be the source of this problem. Since it didn't rain in Dallas in September I don't know if it leaked before.

Fortunately, I have the cargo liner so the water is contained.

Result of visit with Body Shop.

Went by the body shop today and they are going to check it out next week. They used a pressure washer to check for leaks, didn't find any. We did find water leaking out from behind the panel on the inside of the hatch. The tech thought the window might be leaking.

Does anyone else have a problem with water dripping into the cargo are when the hatch is opened?

What do you mean "runs off the hatch"? Like a waterfall? I get a drip drop after washing my car when I open the hatch up but its just a drip or two falling down. Nothing of what you describe

Nope.

Just washed mine a couple days ago. Nothing like that. I open the hatch as soon as I'm done.

I do the windows then close and open the hatch a few times before I bother drying the back. That way when I clean all the jams it doesn't get all wet again as soon as I close it.

Just realized today that I have the same problem. Hatchback Titanium with water leaking into the trunk; and as if that wasn't enough I discovered a large paint chip on the edge of the trunk door. Needless to say I'm not impressed. First, the damn rear parking sensors and the navigation didn't work the same day I took it home, fixed that by re-seating the fuses and now this. I've had the car for 17 bloody days and I think I've run through more issues with this car than I had with my previous daily driver (mazda 3) in 5 years. I'm just so disappointed. First Ford car, probably my last. [?|] [mad][?|]

I took my car into the body shop this morning. They checked it out and found two of the bolts that hold the spoiler on were loose. They tightened them and told me it didn't leak any more.

I went to my usual car wash, where it always leaks and ran the car through the wash and high pressure drying cycle.

No leaks and no water running off the hatch into the cargo area when I opened the hatch.

With luck that fixed it.

The bolts on the two hinges secure the whole hatch. If they were loose, that would explain the leak.

It's unfortunate that sometimes these things happen. I had to align my hatch as it sat too low on the driver's side. It only took a few minutes. I've never experienced a leak but it would be due to one of two things:

  • Loose hinge bolts - there are four 10mm bolts holding the hatch in place
  • Misaligned, loose or cut weatherstripping

Check both - very easily fixed unless your weatherstrip is split somewhere. I am sure that your car will turn out to be an excellent choice. The problems you are experiencing are easily addressed and corrected. I've owned many Fords - they manufacture a great product. I currently own the Focus as well as a 2011 Fiesta. I have owned several Tauruses, a Crown Vic and a Marauder - all great cars.
