2012 - Front tweeter mounting w/ base stereo

Hey all,

Quick question I thought I'd throw out there. On the SE with the most BASE stereo possible (aka only 4 speakers, 2 in the front door and 2 in the rear), I was thinking about adding components to the front.

Components are the woofer, separate from the tweeter, with the crossover box.

I've seen the thread where Tony407 did it, but he had the upgraded sound system. He put the tweeter where the factory tweeter was.

On my SE, which has the base stereo system, it looks like there is the same spot for the tweeter. Obviously, there is no tweeter in there. But I'd certainly like to add one.

Here is an image for reference. The spot for the tweeter looks the exact same as higher trim stereos which include the tweeter.

My question is, has anyone taken apart the door and seen if the same mounting bracket for the tweeter resides in there? Despite the fact that there is no tweeter.

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes you can add tweeters to the 4-speaker factory brackets, they are identical to the 6-speaker brackets.

I was hoping the wiring would still be there even without the tweeters but unfortunately it is not.

I took some pictures of the brackets while I had them off, let me know if you want them. I always have problems posting pictures on here.

What difference would it make if the wiring is there or not?

My understanding of installing component speakers would be the following:

1) Remove factory speakers
2) Re-route wires formerly going to factory speakers to the input of the crossover box
3) Install wiring from crossover box output to the subwoofer
4) Install wiring from crossover box output to the tweeter

Either way, thanks for the answer.. Now the challenge would be to find a 6.5" set of components. Crutchfield does not have that big of a selection, most of the components they sell that "fit" the 2012 are 5 1/2"

If the wiring was included I would just add tweeters and be done.

IMO as far foward and below ear level is the best mounting point for the tweets. There are many things that can be done.

State your budget and we can go from there. I will be back on around 10pm PST.

I will(and probably several others as well)be able to help you narrow things down for good sound.

Your budget will dictate your options.

Since the mounting bracket appears to be present already, I figured I'd just mount the tweeters there.

THerefore, the only cost will be the cost of the 6.5" component speaker system with install. As far as what's availble on crutchfield.com (where I'd like to order from - they supply a free adapter bracket), there's not too much.

There are different part numbers for the 4 and 6 speaker tweeter grilles

4 speakers
L: CV6Z 18978 BB
R: CV6Z 18978 BA

6 speakers
L: CV6Z 18978 AB
R: CV6Z 18978 AA

They are listed with the same price some places, but different prices other places. I wonder if they are different or not.
