exactly where is this notch? it looks like mine has one, however the armrest has a clip that goes in that place.

The armrest's clip goes in the right side notch whereas the left side one should be free for the wire to come out of.

Below is a pic with armrest down but not locked in place. There might not be anything blocking that notch

I don't find the turning radius to be bad, but I haven't owned many cars in this class. My 2008 TT put this to shame though in that department.

-Gearbox (5mt). Felt broken in the day that I picked it up with 3 miles on her. Shifts are buttery smooth, very easy to moderate. Have been granny shifting thru the first 600 miles, but I've ripped it a couple of times, and man it's quick, and fun. Can't wait for aftermarket short throw and to replace the knob.
Couldn't agree more about the feel of shifting. It's amazing.

My car has the "black leather wrapped" shift knob option (comes with the leather wrapped steering wheel). I find it pretty nice, it's black and glossy (not sure where the leather is wrapped heh), has a smooth finish and a nice feel around your hand. I definitely don't feel any need to replace it.

I think the leather wrapped shift knob should be re-worded as its more just the boot that is leather.

I'd like to get an after market shifter knob for it, im not a fan of the OEM on

Are you sure? I need a cord notch but didnt notice any on my Titanium so I simply bring the cord out away from the latch where its not as tight. Does the SEL have the same armrest? Maybe I just didnt look closely enough.
Can't speak for the other trims, but my SE has the notch. I've got my cord running through it.

With regard to the aux port shutoff. I leave everything plugged in overnight. I don't know how long it stays on, but when I come out in the morning it's all off. The aux power doesn't re-energize until I open the door.

Crazy that the titanium and SEL lack that notch considering that consol hides two USB ports and component video jacks. Tempted to dremel out a small notch myself then line the edge with rubber.
to be honest, i never have yet found a need to have a notch to run anything through? My Ipod just stays in the armrest.

phone is bluetooth connected it just sits in there as well.

If I put my phone and iPod in the closed console I know I would walk into work or my house and forget they are in there every single time. Out of sight, out of mind for me.

ok. i don't have my car yet to test this, so someone with one feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

but my game plan is to load up a SD card or jump drive with music and slot it in the center console. bond my iphone 4 via bluetooth with MFT/Sync. play music off the card, and should i need to make a call or one come in, just do that via bluetooth. if i use a 32G card i will have days worth of tunes so i might reload it once every few weeks if i feel like it.

no hassles with reindexing if i don't often remove the card/jump drive. no worries about forgetting the phone in the car, or leaving an expensive mp3 player in the console to get stolen. no cables lying around.

sounds like a winning situation. wondering why it would be worth the hassle of dealing with plugging in my phone at all..?

It actually 're-energizes' if you unlock all doors by double-clicking the Unlock button even if you don't open the door.

btw, I have the SE w Sports combo. Is the material on the center armrest leather?

True, if you car's locked, the power will turn on when you unlock the door. But my car sits in my garage unlocked, so the power comes on when I open the door.

I've had my car for a few days now and only 1 real complaint I haven't seen posted yet- Mine is a SE Hatch 5sp Sport. There is no hatch release in side the car. You have to use the key fob button. I'm in and out of the hatch regularly and this is a pain.

Other than that, very similar to what others have said- 5 speed is great, handling and ride is outstanding, could use a little more torque, rear seats tough on legroom. Quality of materials inside the car is also really nice.

Just use the handle to open the door when you go into it. I have the same car and I thought I had the same complaint until I just find out there's a little button to open the hatch. It's the same place you would normally open the door so it's not inconvenient.

Ok Ford engineers, work on these [wrenchin]

  • Push button start should have just gone where the keyed ignition was
  • Need more storage for things like parking passes, pens.
  • Cupholders are too close to the armrest, lids keep getting caught
  • Sharp and hard plastic where your right knee rests
  • Floor mats that cover the left foot rest area for the driver
  • Cord routing notch from the centre console for when you want your phone/player visible
  • Turning radius way too wide

On mine it looks like the 12v socket turns off after an hour or so. It turns back on the next time the car is unlocked or a door is opened.
It doesn't actually shut off it just goes into a lower-power state. Normally it should be around 14V (despite being a 12V outlet) and after 15-20 minutes of the car being shut off it usually drops under 12V (lowest I've seen is 11.7V). Basically it's low enough to shut off most electronics that would be plugged in. And no, it's not because my battery's going dead because as soon as you activate anything in the car (lights, doors, etc...) it pops it back up to 14V. It's gotta be some kind of power-saving feature.

Also, I love the car. Only thing I'd want to improve would be a more powerful engine, but truthfully I'm completely satisfied with the one that's in there.

To the people complaining about the computer handling the shifting...what exactly do you do that you get these problems? I've never had the computer interfere with my driving style. Whether it's pushing it to the floor or going for max mpg I've never had the computer shift when I didn't really want it to. If it's such a problem drop it into Sport mode and it'll maintain a lower gear. Problem solved.

Crydee- Thanks for that just checked it. Like everyone else I should RTFM!

Unrelated, but similar, I don't think the hatch area has a release inside the 'trunk' area. (I haven't looked at the sedan to have any idea what's there.)

Years ago some manufacturers showcased their interior releases after some high-profile cases of kids getting stuck in trunks when playing. I haven't heard anything about it in years, though.
