So in 1st or 2nd gear my car will surge or stall hard then then coolant light will come on. I give it gas and the car starts working again and ligth goes out. Also when my heater is on my car will just die when in neutral and once again coolant light comes on. Anyone have any ideas?

What coolant light?
I'll bet you're talking about the (!) light, which is only a 'cooling' light for the automatic equipped cars (transmission fluid temperature is too hot). On the manual equipped cars if it's blinking it's an ignition misfire.
Being you can't idle and it's jerky, a misfire fits the bill perfect.

if its a coolant problem, ur motor could be overheating.

mine does it. my code is a misfire on 3 and a misfire b4 1k rpms. ive changed sparks, wires, alternator, valve gasket. now i await more advice on what to waste money on next

waste ur money on a coil pack, thats what it is if ur having a misfire, either that or you have a compression problem

thanks MLB, ive asked the ? several times to several different people and i get a different answer each time. but a coilpack is only 20 bucks and rather easy so that will be the next thing
