How does it sound like a PITA? Not bad at all. Your call, your car. How much money? I paid $300. Mechanic did it all.
only $300 labor???? around my area the cheapest labor you can find is about $50 an hour. I'd imagine a Zetec swap would probably take a mechanic an entire day, and thats like what 8 hours of work? I would have to tear the Zetec out of a JY car and all the other parts I need...gah i really need to go to mechanical school...

my 03 zts was rolled in dec. just bought a 00 se i think it is. anyways it has or had the spi in it. of course valve seat dropped in it so i got the engine out and preparing for the swap of my zetec. so two whole cars will become one. lol ill try to keep some notes and take pictures. need to have this thing solid for the fest!!!
Sounds cool bro! I would never buy a Focus SPI for the prices they normally go for, I only bought mine because its nearly mint inside and out and it happened to have a dropped valve seat so I got it for only $1,200. I'm a Zetec guy all the way.

Not sure where the whole 2002.5 came from neither. Mine was built in 2002.5 and called a 2003. So, who knows. [drinking]
Mine was manu'd in February 2002

Change your IP. EBay has Nic cards for $5. Swap your line and it changes the IP address. You must also clone your IP in your router, and reboot your router. But, you get the point. After a week or so, your old IP drops and you can go back and fourth for $5.
Nah, I'm never on ProbeTalk anymore. My IP automatically changed after a month or so.

I didn't go to a fancy shop. I took it to a kids place who just graduated from tech school and was trying to get a business going. [cheers]. I found him on CL. Looked for cheap mechanic, and found him. Actually, I got other offers that were close as well. Offers ranged from $300-$500

It wasn't too hard. It wasn't. Maybe Mike will post of some pics as well.

@ teamzetec,

i only bought the car for the body. save me on lots of body work i would have had to do to mine. the spi was already blown, noone wanted to put the money in to fix it so sent it to a yard. where i found it. lol so the adventure continues friday.

zetec. its really not hard. before i did my swap i did minor things like suspension, oil changes, and things like that. I just dove into my swap. you can find a junkyard that will pull it for you. at least mine did... then you have plenty of people on here to help...

My funds are limited man. Like seriously limited. I got $300 ATM. Not gonna have any more any time soon due to being unemployed.

Junkyards around here that pull the parts for you want bout $600 for a motor, and around $100 at you pull-it junkyards. My friends and I can tear a Zetec out of a JY car, that not the issue. Its the actual swap that I'm gonna have trouble with. I do know of guy who has done the swap 3 times before but I don't know if hes just talkin me up or what, I don't really know him. I haven't even gotten to discuss it with him yet except over facebook where it didn't get any farther than "I did the swaps 3 times". I can't call him because his phones broke. I wish i had the knowledge to do the swap myself, because it would have been done the past weekend.

who's phone's broke nowadays.... besides Brad's that is [hihi]
Nearly every single one of my friends complain of a broken phone every now and again. Its annoying. I have had a few $40-$60 cheap flip phones/slide phones over the yeears and they never break or let me down. Had two more expensive phones (Sony) and they broke very quickly. Most phones are designed to malfunction, especially smartphones (which i detest). Btw whos Brad?

Are you sure you and your friends can do the swap? Hear me out first before you reply.

If, and if you can pull the motor from the JY "that not the issue" as you stated, you can do the swap then! Taking the motor out is the same as putting it in. So, if you can pull out a spi you can drop-in the zetec. It just bolts up! Now, what's left? The wiring. It's plug & play. So, remove the plug (fuel pump harness) from the fuse box in the motor, then follow it to the firewall. remove it. Follow it inside the car to the ECU. Un-plug it. Follow it to the passenger seat. Un-plug it. Then last, follow it to the rear seat which is where the fuel pump is. Un-plug it! Again, it's plug and play.

So, I ask, if you really have the skill to remove a motor, why can't you do this install? Don't being a d!ck. I know you have three threads going at once saying the same thing. But, maybe a pep talk might be in order to show, you...YOU CAN DO THIS SWAP [cheers] Alright, I gave my pep-talk...it's early [sleeping]

I am confused... why is anyone swapping in a Zetec instead of the 2.3 Duratec?
Takes more brains. I only completed the 7th grade, so I did the zetec instead.

All jokes aside, I was told its more difficult and more parts are needed.

So exactally which parts do you need to do the swap? I own a SPI with (what else) a blown engine. I found a donar car. What parts will I need to buy from it to make the switch?
Here is my build thread with parts needed. Any questions after you read all the pages, post away.

Zetec motor mounts, Zetec flex pipe, Zetec wiring harness from engine pay to ECU then wiring harness from ECU that runs under the carpet to passenger seat then to fuel pump, Zetec power steering pump, Zetec power steering pump lines, and im pretty sure thats it.

A/C lines if I remember. Throttle cable. Fuel line from firewall to injectors (its about 6"). Intake tube from TB to air box (also needed). Get keys with ECU or dealer has to re-program key. Heater coolant tube (on top of radiator).
