Front Reverse Hood

Here are the basic instructions and pictures you need to turn your hood into a corvette style hood. This is also known as reverse opening hood or suicide hood. Do this at your own risk!

The main question I get asked is "What do I need to buy for supplies?" All you will need to buy is hood pins. Hood pins can be picked up off of eBay or at local automotive stores. They range from $6-25 depending on the style and quality but that’s up to you.
First thing you will need to do is remove your hood from the car completely. There are two hinges: one on each end of the upper part of the car which will need to be unbolted from the hood. You will need some help to hold up the hood. Then you can sit your hood aside for now.
Now remove those hinges that were attached to the hood from the car. There will be another two bolts per hinge to the right that will need to be removed also. Now what you will have to do is remove the stock latch from the front of the car. It is bolted between the headlights and held on by 4 bolts.
Now that you have removed everything, you are ready for the tricky part. MEASUREMENTS: You will need exact measurements on where to drill. You will have to move those stock hinges that were near the window up to where the latch was.
The picture below shows you where these should be exactly and how they should look.
Then you will bolt them into the metal and to the hood. Personally I recommend drilling three holes on each hinge to the hood as shown in the picture. Make sure everything lines up perfectly before this is done or you will regret it. You don’t want to drill holes in the wrong spots. I recommend at least two people doing the drilling and measuring to make sure things are done right.

Now you will need to put on the hood pins. Those must be drilled in near the wiper blade as shown in the next picture. As for the rest of the installation of the hood pins it all depends on the style of hood pins you bought. Instructions should be included with them and the process is not too difficult.

Now the final step is to find a place to drill a hole where the arm can hold the hood up.
Here is an example:

This picture gives you an idea of where I drilled the whole. Just use the arm to decide the best spot. ALL DONE!! Now that wasn’t so hard. Have fun showing off that engine.

I hope you have something worth showing off if you are doing this trick to your car. Or at least a cool paint job!

Would like to see it on a focus. Looks to me that the only thing on the focus you could mount the hinges to would be the radiator support and that sits pretty far back from the front on the hood. I thought, and it might be on fj, that someone did a hood that opened to one side of the car, that was weird.

I was hoping that people who want to be custom with out dropping xxx amount would like this. I am the kind of person who likes anything I can do myself without chunking my budget. it is a do at your own risk mod i am not held responsible.

You're my cheapo idol! lol

One question..
doesn't this make trying to work on stuff in the engine bay a pain in the ass?
cuz now you've lost a point of entry.. [poke]

Wouldnt you be able to access it from the sides easier?

This would give a good idea of a mounting bracket

the side access is similar OEM, but the front access is now lost after this. You cannot really access it from the rear unless you want to climb up on the car and sit on the windshield lol

i had this on my 03 for a short period of time. required a special brack (i still have it if someone wants to buy it) and some modification brhind the grill. trying to get everything to line up properly was a pita and never mounted the hood pins. was cool to have, just wasn't worth it to me.
