I've never done work with turbo's my general rule of thumb with stuff like this is...If it's gonna break your bank, get something very reliable that's gonna work 100% Something like that, that could cause a lot of problems with your car, isnt something that I'd go cheap on. Just my 2 cents.

If you want a "cheaper" set up start watching the Buy/Sell section on here and you might be able to get a good used kit. But for now start reading up on it. Read all the stickies here and Google is your friend. The more you read the more you'll learn.

Buy Toms DIY kit. I would have if i needed to start over. I did a custom kit, and it gets expensive.
Truth. Very expensive. One thing in particular that would have made life easier is an I/C pipe kit. Still working out fitment issues...

like everyone has mentioned, it does get pricey to build your own, even if you fabricate your own DP & IC piping and do all your own installing!
I bought what i could used & built my dp and fitted my own piping and Still hit about $3200 ish after tuning. and now i'm saving for a Bigger turbo lol the small stuff adds up fast, but boost is sooo worth it!!
tom's diy kit would be an excellent way to get started.[thumb]..save you a lot of head achs.

Custom turbo kit *can* be cheap as hell if you buy good used parts or eBay parts. I am *not* recommending eBay parts, but John made over 300whp on an eBay turbo, I believe. SPA manifold isn't much...then try to find a good deal on injectors, Xcal3, etc.

it would be very simple to do the mechanical parts for under 2k. but when you start adding gauges that are needed (wideband, boost, etc), injectors, bap, mafia, j&s, sct flasher and/or prp, tunning, clutch, diff, plus any other misc stuff that will add up big time.
