you basically need the whole engine. I havent done it, but a lot of other people have asked the same question, and thats the answer they usually get.
yes its possible. you'll need the upper 2.3 engine harness to add the runner control valves to the mix, unless you plan on installing the cosworth IM at the same time, you'll need a tune.
and thats pretty much it.
BUT.... from what f2 focus has said, the 2008 cams have changed so... you may not be able to do it.
so yes you do and no you dont have to swap the motor, for a 2.3 swap.
