I hate to stick my nose in this thread, but the search engine won't let me search for "ZTW" because it's too short :p

-- My local ford dealer has declared that the rear spindle for the SVT and ZTW are the same... Does this mean to accomplish the SVT brake swap on a disc brake equiped wagon all I would need are the shields, calipers (and bits,) rotors and knuckle mounting bolts?

damn.. this all looks doable to me up until the ebrake part I sorta got confused there. Oh and bleeding the brakes, never done that before either.

You need a longer ebrake cable. That is all.

glad to help... im glad that some people are able to use it.. and about the ebrake its easy once you get to the actual part you will understand it..

... I went ahead and did the rear brake swap. I have a 2003 ZTW; the only parts I needed were the 2002-2004 SVT rear rotors, SVT rear pads, and the caliper mounting brackets.

The parts department at my local Ford dealership said that the heat sheild is listed as the same part between all rear disc Foci in the previously specified date range.

LIES!

I had to "customize" mine with a coffee can and a 18lb sledgehammer (placed the can on the shield and gave it a couple of whacks so it would bend out of the way by the 5mm that was neccesary.)

At any rate. I'm noticing that there's unequal force being applied to the driver and passenger side brakes ONLY when the emergency brake is engaged... (the passenger locks up the wheel before the drivers side by a fair bit.)

... Anyone know how to remedy this?

Great thread, do you mind me asking but rims do you have and what size are they?
I saw similar rims if not the same ones on a site.

Thanks man.

Yes, the same master cylinder is used. As far as 15"'s, they will fit the rear SVT conversion but if you do the front SVT brakes aswell, then they wont clear the caliper. Very few aftermarket 15"s will fit the front.
Thank you very much for the info. I have the opportunity to buy the whole rear end (subframe, svt discs, springs, etc) for a very nice price and I plan to do this swap.

There was a guy here localy on craigs list selling rear disk from an SVT but he didnt have all the bolts.

If one was to go to a pick and pull place and rob the brakes off an SVT focus what are the important parts that are needed?

All he had were the 2 hubs, the 2 brake calipers and the 2 rotors nothing else. 6 parts total.

He only wanted $30. i almost bought em but figured ide need more parts to even complete the swap.

Nice! Dropping the rear subframe on these cars is actually really easy. Only 6 bolts for the frame, 4 bolts for the trailing arm, 3 bolts for the evap box, and just disconnect the brake lines. Also a perk of the SVT swap would be getting the rear sway bar if you dont have one already.

If you get all that stuff, then you'll need the backing plates, spindles, caliper brakets and all hardware (slider pins/bolts), all the brake lines starting from the metal one that runs under the whole length of the car all the way to the caliper (on SVT's, there should be a rubber hose to metal line with a bracket in between and then another rubber line running back to the caliper), and the e-brake cable. I'd recommend new pads and rotors if the ones you would get are in rough shape. I think the hardest part would be finding an SVTF in a junkyard. Good luck!

Looks amazing i am doing this to my 05 ses it will go nicely with the Black rally rims i just ordered! and thanks to this good lookin how to i will no be sending it into a shop to work on it! thanks again looks good!

very nice post. just did the swap on my ZX3 about an hour ago. im having a problem now with the calipers not retracting all the way. rear discs are partially applied. fronts are fine as I did not touch them. you didnt have to take out the metering valve on the master cylinder, or replace the master cylinder? just trying to figure out if its my calipers or my hydraulic system itself, seeing I bought the calipers used...
