iv heard rumors that the intake manifolds on the 2000 zetec dont create power past 5k or so.. is this true? if so... whats the solution as far as replacing the I.M with lets say an SVT or newer zetec? and would putting an svt header on a 00' zetec be worth it without the newer/ replaced intake mani?.. jus lookin for a few extra ponies...[poke].. btw thanks ahead of time for the help !!!not affraid to shoot reps!

well, the shorter the intake manifold runners, the higher up ur peak torque will be in the rpms, however ur power is limited by ur cams. stock cams loose power after 6500. Crower II's make power up at about 7200 +, and Crower 3's, 8000, crower 4's, close to 9k rpm. but ur motor has to be built for that.

agreed ^
the stock intake mani is pretty restrictive. you can put on a SVT IM but you will have to slot it to fit to a zetec head, and you will also need a rpm window switch of some sort to operate the DSIM. it would be simpler to just get a ford racing intake manifold and throttle body.
the SVT header is the best header upgrade on the market today for the standard zetec. if you have the opportunity to do the svt header swap then go for it. you will need svt header, dipstick tube, power steering line at least. and it helps if you also have the flex pipe and cat.

yeah they are expensive. and if his 2000 kona was built early in the year, it already has a nicer manifold than later models. more than adequate for bolt-ons.
op- if you want a "few ponies" like you say, i recommend the SVT header, 2.5 or 2.25 exhaust, some type of intake (SVT is nice, too. like the header), Stage 2 cams, and then a tune.

COOL thanks guys! yeah that sounds about right...

i was just wondering if the stock IM was limiting my power up to 5k (i rarely take it that high)...

and i dont know if it is an early 2000 or what (has plastic cover instead of metal which from what i hear, the earlier models had) so i guess the SVT exhaust/oil dipstick, and PS line/ full exhaust basically is my next project... will that mess with emmissions.. im in cali i know they are strict but im jus not sure exactly HOW strict....[whip]

there is a really easy work around to trick the egr to eliminate it without causing a cel.
i'm trying to find it for you. it used to be on focushacks but i don't see it

The 2000 intake manifolds were better then the 2001s and up. For some reason Ford decided to make them more restrictive..why Idk. Many people either port their stock ones or find a 2000 IM to swap. Don't worry about your power too much that high, worry more about getting there quickly and adding power throughout the range.

not much though. the design of the manifold is still the same, the diameter and runner length are the same.

i thought the only difference between the 2000 manifold and later models was that the later models were a 2 piece design and the 2000 were 1 piece?

correct, so ur only talking about a little less head loss. very little difference on their own. they are alot better for boost as they are alot stronger, thats about it. but if you port them they can do a bit better, but minescule. maybe 1 whp

But dang it I know that 1whp is there!

Swapping in the early 2K manifold was probably the cheapest mod I have done so far. Matched with a 65mm Throttle body it makes a nice difference pretty much throughout the revs. Don't know about without the TB though, I did both at the same time.

thanks for the heads up. im gunna look this up right away! where can i get a new power steering line? is it bc mine is too short? or too close to the header?
