i've seen focus centrals cam sprockets. They are $199.99 and claim 10-12 HP at the WHEELS! but will they be hard for a shop to install and tune to have those results? will a dyno be needed to correctly tune them? how good can my normal shop tune it for gains without a dyno?

Yes...they hard not what is considered a bolt-on part. You will need to bring the Focus to a dyno shop so they can tune your car perfectly.

As for a normal shop without dyno..they would have to guess your optimal degrees which is pretty much impossible to do.

You should consider McNews, they are located in PA.

I'd have to disagree. cam gears usually take about 1.5 hours to install, and that's if you really take your time. though I guess having done multiple timing belts on zetec motors has made me pretty quick at it.

perfectly, yes, but given that there are many, many people out there with all sorts of combinations of mods who have already done the cam gears, you can figure out what will work well for you by talking to them. it won't be as good as dynoing the car, but it'll carry you over until you make it to a dyno

Part of this is incorrect.

You cannot ever guess or base your setting off of anyone else.

The focus cam/cam gears are not indexed meaning that unless a crank timing pin is used, your just guessing as far as tdc goes.

I have seen 1-2 degrees worth 4-5 whp and wtq.
