ok so i installed the steeda intake today, and while there was torque steer before i put it in there is a lot more now. it's not even so much off stop lights, but even when i need to pass someone (aggressively if i can see them texting of course) its always pulling one way or another. i guess its god telling me to not push my fwd car like that. there is nothing wrong with my car either.

what can i buy to reduce/eliminate this? i realize on fwd cars it's always going to be there so i just wanna reduce it. i tried going on fswerks site and reading all their descriptions but i'm not finding exactly what i need. i'm not looking for a full suspension kit because i dont live in the mountains or feel the need to autocross, just a simple, "buy this bar" will do, thanks!
 
First, I can't believe an intake alone added enough power to take you from no torque steer to torque steer. We have an AEM intake and it did very little. That said, torque steer is primarily caused by the twisting of unequal length drive shafts (aka half shafts). The solution is usually bigger diameter aftermarket shafts.

Your also talking about zetec vs duratec. the duratec has alot more balls than the zetec an is almost as good as the SVT.
 
Torque steer is purely a function of suspension geometry and driveaxle length. Not much you can do to fix it, just be aware of it. As long as you're powering the same wheels as the ones doing the steering, its always going to be there.

If you want to really feel torque steer, go jump in a mazda speed 3, if you're not paying attention, you'll find yourself in the next lane :D

my dad has a MKS and my buddy has an 06 impala ss, i know what torque steer is.
maybe i can take a video of me having to move the wheel side to side after i fully accelerate?

ANYWAYS, what can i get to help it? i know there has to be something out there. i realize it will always be there since its fwd.

OK lets see here:
-One axle is different length then the other, nope can't change that
-Strut suspension, cant change that either
-Add a LSD, already said no to that one

Lowering might help a little, if the axles are closer to parallel to the ground. Other than that, aren't there better things to try to improve on the car??? I know it sucks to pay attention to what your car's doing when you accelerate...

I mean seriously, if people whine about it too much the OEM's, and the evil powers of consumer reports/NHTSA/etc. will start shoving electric steering down our throats with overly complex sensors to get rid of torque steer.
 
True some FWD cars have noticeable torque steer. Not true for all FWD cars. While the effect might be present......it's not noticeable. My '06 has never exhibited any torque steer that I can feel.

I'd say if it's as bad as you report.....something is loose. Your Steeda has nothing to do with it either. IMO.
 
does this only happen when passing other cars? maybe what u feel sometimes is the resistance of the tires to leave the rut that they are in, or the tires will sudenly turn when they drop into a new rut.

I know for my car being slammed with lo-pro tires and lots of camber, that i have to have 2 hands on the wheel on rutted city streets.
 
i completely agree with bluefront

im kinda interested... automatic with an intake and haveing torque steer problems...? do you keep your hands on the wheel or do you try and drive with your knee, where then what thenorm is saying could come more so into effect??? lol i dont believe any stock or near stock focus for sure an automatic should have any complaints of torque steer... just kinda my thought...
 
Gotta agree with bluefront. Go drive a chevy cobalt ss (1st gen). No torque steer and its supercharged.

I havnt been able to say I've driven a focus with torque steer. Understeer yes but not torquesteer.

Try playing with your caster angles and see if anything changes. That's the only thing that is really going to affect torquesteer other than camber and tirepressure.

his caster should be w/in stock spec, most cars are. I wouldn't think thats gonna be a problem.

I had torque steer for a bit but i've got a wee bit more torque, then i got my torsen and spec 3+, and i don't have too much of a problem any more

i usually drive one hand, i wouldnt accelerate real hard with just my knee lol. i have 215/40/17s on my svt wheels right now and havent put the tpms sensors in yet. well my dad drove it and got a low pressure light (they really werent, it was just the fact the sensors are sitting in my room) so he messed with the pressures to fix it. i was already running them at about 38 since theyre so low pro i dont want to bend my rims going over railroad tracks and such. well one of my wheels was over 10psi higher than the other ones, so i readjusted them. i went down a wide side street in an industrial area that is only open mon-fri and did a few 0-60 runs. everything was good so hopefully everything is good now.

thenorm- i know exactly what youre talking about, i have a few streets that are like that. i dont even have to be accelerating and when i move over just a little bit my car is hopping around.
