So I have around $450 to spend on suspension upgrades right now. I have a bone stock '01 SE sedan and would like to get new springs, shocks, and possibly a rear sway bar. This car is my daily driver, so I don't want anything too low or too stiff. Right now I'm looking into the full SVT kit. If you guys have any other (better) suggestions, suggest away. I would just like to keep it under $450 without shipping.

I was going to suggest the B&G kit but that was 500 with shipping dude.

Are you looking at the Steeda sight for the SVT suspension set up with the rear sway bar? That set up will only lower your car about 1/2" but it will make the car handle a lot better than it does now. If you order through Hilbish Ford you can get the FRPP for something like $360 if I am not mistaken but it doesn't include the rear sway bar. And if I am not mistaken the Sedans didn't come with rear sway bars so you will have to order a kit to mount that sway bar as well. Good luck to you.

Looks (lowering) need not be the prime consideration. The SVT kit is a great option for a street driven/daily driver car. It will improve handling and maintain good ride quality and is the best bang for the buck there is. Apply the money you save to your next set of tires or brake improvements.

Do you have the mounts for a sway now? If so this is what I did. Go to a junk yard and pull a sway off another Focus, a SVT would be best but I got a sway off a SE sedan. For the bar and all the mounts it cost me $32.

The SVT kit is a great kit for what you get. The only problem is it doesnt lower the car that much. It will improve handeling but if you want a lowered look, then go with the FRPP kit.

Actually, I'm not 100% sure if I have a sway bar in the back or not. Never really checked.

I take it Hilbish would be the cheapest for the FRPP kit?

The rear SVT sway bar comes with most SVT kits. I believe it's 21mm in diameter. Check Northcoast, Capaldi, and CFM for complete kits (springs, shocks, and rear bar).
I was going to get the kit off of Capaldi.

Another question, could you run the SVT shocks/struts with the FRPP springs?

The new SVT rear bar (+1 mm) will fit the old bushings. It is a little tight, but it will work fine. The only extra item I would recommend is new strut bearings, it would be a shame to have everything apart and not replace them (like I did).

Ok, so my alternator just decided to go out today. I ended up replacing that, the serpentine belt, idler pully (bearing was shot and made weird noises), and some other odds and ends. My budget is now down to $275. This will pretty much limit me to used stuff (for springs and shocks/struts). I'm working on getting a used SVT spring and shock/strut kit.

A complete "new" SVT kit is 260.00 from Northcoast.

It comes to ~$310 with shipping, which is a little high for me at the moment. I may just get a set of shocks and worry about springs at a later time, unless I can find a SVT kit for $275 shipped. Honestly, ANYTHING would be an upgrade to my car right now as I'm still running the original springs and shocks, my car has 120k miles.

The roush shocks are decent but are intended to be used with shorter springs. They come with a shorter body to accomodate shorter springs. I would not use them with stock length springs as they would subject the shocks to bottoming, not good if you want them to last. I would save for the SVT kit rather than trying to piece meal things. If you have to go the latter route look for some used SVT springs from a reputable seller and then buy new SVT shocks (about 160.00). Install as a complete set (springs and shocks) not individually.
