There was no tune. We were hoping that running it easily would be fine, as without the tune the ecu should basically be dumping fuel in the lower rpms. It was, but like a bad tune, everytime you shift it usually goes lean- and going lean under a heavy highway load was apparently too much to handle. Even had 93 octane in it too.

I will say that the FS header, flex, and race exhaust was obnoxiously loud, but did sound excellent :) The clutch felt good too, and because it wouldn't run below 1500 rpms, we could tell the Quaife worked well too, as the tires tried to break loose every time I accelerated from a stop, trying to keep the revs up- without the Quaife they likely would have been spinning constantly.

The front SVT brakes look excellent as well ;)

neat thread, but that sucks what happened. i hope they get it sorted...where is htp located anyways?

Just got the good news from Jason- piston #1 has a hole in it, and you can see the rod through the other side. He (understandably) got discouraged and went home, he'll be pulling the head in the morning to run it to an engine professional - we want to make sure the head is 100% undamaged.

augh....wtf...i guess this means dont ever run cams with no tune. period.

that sucks. hows this affecting your labor now? i mean, did they tell you it would be okay to take it no tune, or did you just say you wanted to try it?

It was a joint decision, and i think all parties knew it was a bad one even before the catastrophy.

I'm not worried about the cost, we'll work something out that is fair for both of us. They aren't out to screw me over, they are out to make sure I'm a happy customer and keep coming back for more. I have no worries about the situation, i just want whatever we do to be done asap so i have a car to drive :)

The decision for letting it go out was based on word from another tuner. We were hesitant to let it leave the shop without being tuned. After this experience, no other vehicles will leave our shop without a full tune or else they leave on a flatbed truck. We are now working on bringing tuning solutions onboard.

yeah, when will you guys start your own tuning? i would love to hit you guys up and do a dyno tune.

will u do ur own tunes? that would be killer.

Damn jason, you were supposed to keep the D23 secret! Hahaha no worries. I'm looking forward to this.

They are trying to team up with the dyno guy in the same industrial park for tuning solutions.

It stands now that the cams were the ultimate cause of the problems. Apparently Crower didn't understand that when we told them the cams were going into a 2.0, that they were going into a 2.0. They were spec'd for a 2.3, whose pistons have a larger dish that can support these cams. So long story short, their [:)][:)][:)][:)] up ruined my brand new FRPP head, and blew up an engine.

HTP got another Ford Racing head shipped in for me.

They are currently trying to source another 2.3 block so that they don't have to pull Brians 2.3 before FocusFest next weekend. We'll see where it goes from here...it'd be pretty disappointing if we ended up having to put another 2.0 in there, because the cams I have would be useless.

why not get some for the 2.0? just send them back?

so, is crower paying for all this?

Unfortunately no, as I didn't buy the cams directly from them. I bought them used (25 miles on them) from PaulHaskew on FJ.

Just got a text from jason, they've sourced a D23 block, so we should eb good to go, and I should have the car back Monday night. Randy has already sent Jason the base tune.

so damn this cost has, like, just doubled! oh man, that blows. jeez.

Yeah, at this point both myself and HTP have spent more than we expected/wanted to. A LOT more. Oh well, thats what happens when you mod cars I guess
