Never heard of this happening to a Focus - but it did! Middle of December, I was pulling away from a stop sign, and - BANG - then all sorts of odd sounds. Pulled over, popped the hood and noticed one of my plug boots was raised up. Called a tow truck and had it towed to the Ford dealer.
Blew the plug right out of the head. They tried to fix with a repair kit for the F-150 (guess it happens often enough with the F-150 that they issued a repair kit), but it took a chuck of the head with it rather than just the threads. Well, a month later, new head and all the fixin's that goes along with it, minus $1,800, and it runs like crap.
Took it back to the dealer twice already. The first time all they did was adjust the accelerator pedal to the original position. Didn't help! Starts rough, and the gas mileage went from 33 mpg to 26! Big difference! Does anyone know if this is just a matter of adjusting the Throttle Positioning Sensor, or something else? I'm going on a loose connection, loose vacuum line hunt tomorrow. If I get it figured out, I'll post on here. If anyone else has had this happen, let me know.[wave]
