Never heard of this happening to a Focus - but it did! Middle of December, I was pulling away from a stop sign, and - BANG - then all sorts of odd sounds. Pulled over, popped the hood and noticed one of my plug boots was raised up. Called a tow truck and had it towed to the Ford dealer.

Blew the plug right out of the head. They tried to fix with a repair kit for the F-150 (guess it happens often enough with the F-150 that they issued a repair kit), but it took a chuck of the head with it rather than just the threads. Well, a month later, new head and all the fixin's that goes along with it, minus $1,800, and it runs like crap.

Took it back to the dealer twice already. The first time all they did was adjust the accelerator pedal to the original position. Didn't help! Starts rough, and the gas mileage went from 33 mpg to 26! Big difference! Does anyone know if this is just a matter of adjusting the Throttle Positioning Sensor, or something else? I'm going on a loose connection, loose vacuum line hunt tomorrow. If I get it figured out, I'll post on here. If anyone else has had this happen, let me know.

WOW never head of that happening before sound like it might be ECU related

but i would check all the other maintenence stuff first like oil change fuel filter

Witchcity SVT blew a plug out of his head too, if I remember correctly. I think he was able to fox his with a helicoil. I wonder if they timed the cams right?

yeah sounds like the cam timing is a little off, or possible vacuum leak like you said.

this is the first time i have heard of a focus blowing out a plug, ive had quite a few friends have it happen on their hondas lol

Thanx guys!

After reading through the repair manual a bit last night, it seems as though there are a lot of possibilities for poor performance. Cam timing, TPS returned to original position, etc. Me thinks it's going back to the dealer to get it fixed right - after all, that's what I paid them the 1,800 clams for, right?

After I get this fixed, I'll post to let all know what the remedy was.
