DIY Tinted Windows?

Has anybody tinted their own windows? Any tips? What do you do about those little dots around the back 3 windows?

i did my rear three windows.

yea, the first 2-3 times trying to apply the film, you'll mess up.
then you'll get a feel for it, working the squeegee around with soapy water.

I spent ~$65 or so, for rolls of tint.
i used Gila tint, 5% limo tint.

i enjoyed doing it cuz $150 too much money but then again u get the guarentee.

what did you do about those little dots that go around the windows....the tint doesnt stick to those

the dot matrix. i heard you can get 'em out with a razorblade if you're very careful (i personally would never try that) i just try not 2 look at them.

Tinting is an "ART".... if the window is arc'd in more than a two ways, your going to have trouble. It's tricky and I have yet to see a 'homemade' tint job look good. Check around your town for shops and play them against eachother, might not cost you much more for them to just do it then if you were going to do it yourself. Plus most tint shops have some sort of warranty on the tint as well as their work so if it bubbles or peels, they fix it....

Those little 'dots' are a pain in the ass to tint to. You can't tint over them cause the tint won't stick and you'll get bubbles and unless you got one super steady hand, cutting the tint around them with a razor keeping a decent edge is practically impossible.

I was just going to do it myself becuase we dont have any shops close to here. The closest place that does it is over an hour away. It sucks living in a tiny ass town

Yeah if you overheat the tint though it will mess up more than just where the 'dots' are.....

Trust me, it's one of the things I have done in the past (tinting) quite a few times and it's a pain in the ass.....

you can tint over those black dots you just need a heat gun to make the tint stick to it.but if you have never done it before might as well get a shop to do it to save the headache you will get
yeah bad idea to heat tint too much. you only heat it to fit it around a curve and there is a way its supposed to be done. some people heat up a window then spray water on it and they crack their windows, no fun.

black dots are the dot matrix, no real way around it, sometimes one of the shops we work with just covers the dot matrix with black vinyl.

but yeah, its a bad idea to tint windows ur self, not only because of the process, but also because you cant get proffessional grade film from a retail store. any tint from those stores is going to turn purple and bubble and boy, does it smell bad when u pull it off!

i would love to get my windows tinted i just don't know where to go or how much i'm looking at. I guess I would like 5% in the back 3 windows and 30% on the sides.

5% all around is the best get that i have it no regrets getting it that dark

it's illegal to have tint on side windows in illinois so 30% is as dark as i'll go on the sides. But i can have limo on the back 3 if i wanted np

I had my windows shop tinted. Like mentioned earlier they will fix it if it's messed up. I took mine back in for a bubble and the guy said the bubble was an easy fix but he found a scratch or tear that I couldn't even see and replaced that windows tint on the spot. Also worth mentioning the guy that did mine knows how to get the tint to stick so well thru the dot matrix area that it is not noticeable at all.

i think 5% is a bit dark, i had 35% on my front windshield, 20% on my front 2, and 5% on the back 3 on my mustang. wayyyyy to dark, not to mention i got ticketed...

solaris, if u go 5% do it all the way around or at least 20% up front, if u do 30 and 5 it will be too mismatched and look funny
