Who ever helped you pick your turbo could not of talked you into a worse Turbo for the Focus , It is slow spooling and leaves you little working RPM range for power .

Tom
one of our friends have a d16 1.6 single cam can spool up this turbo at 4000 rpm and why a 2.0 dual head cam cant ?

we have another friend that has a 2006 focus sport turbo kit and upgraded the turbo to the gt3076r and with a log manifold and he doesnt have any lag.

we were looking around for turbos and garett said that this turbo would be perfect for a 2.0 so we decided to buy it.

Saleen Princess, I saw in your profile that you and your husband already have a turbo focus. Which turbo is your husband running on your Orange ZX3?

gt3076r

How do you two like it so far?

The biggest thing I didnt like was the slow spool time.... slower the spool the less power it will make down low. Now it made good power up top, but not enough to make up for the loss down low.
Hey Orange, I was just trying to remember how much PSI your cylinders had when you got back from tuning with Tom and the gt3076r. Weren't you shooting oil out of the dipstick? And couldn't low compression in the cylinders affect spool time?

Tom, I was also curious as to how many GT3076r's you have tuned for Foci?

you really CAN NOT compare a focus even to a d16 honda engine. they are just not the same, lol. and the zetec will just not flow good enough to be compared.

the 2006 is a duratec which flows a lot better than the zetec so that comparison is not going to work.

i can not say from first hand that the 3076r is no good for the zetec focus. i am just saying that the comparisons that you made are not going to work. i am also upgrading my turbo to a much larger one but i am not going with the 3076r because like many i have learned my lesson when it comes to "doing my own thing" and not listening to tom.

and john i love the down pipe. that thing looks sweet. [thumb]

well the examples i put before was not for comparisons, the reasons why i put those examples was because what they have is less then what my husband has on his motor and theirs spools fast either way. my husbands head will over flow any d16 or duratec head stock, because he has a lot of work to his head which includes full race port and polish, custom cam shafts (crower), over sized valves (intake and exhaust) and etc. just remember this motor is not stock and the only thing the will affect is that he has low compression pistons but that would be no concern because the boost level will take care of it.

when i posted that thread about turbo comparison the red line is the dyno graph for the fastrax car.

03orangesvt, i was doing my research because your turbo seemed different then my husbands..... look at these pictures their both called gt30r but their different. my husbands is a gt3076r and you said that yours is the same but they look different

one looks like my husbands and the other one looks likes yours

JUST THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO SEE THIS? GUESS WHAT TURBO THIS FOCUS HAS?
I have an idea lets look at a car with a custom head , custom cams , custom intake , custom turbo , a tuner that knows what he is doing then try to say the turbo and this gals car is going to do the same thing !

I have tuned 3 with the this turbo and they were all dogs in comparison to a better chosen properly sized turbo , Garette doesent have a clue how to pick turbos for the Focus because like other turbo kit builders on here they think if a Honda does it a Focus should do the same thing , the only thing a Honda has in common with a Focus is there both 4 cyl , It stops there

You claim you head out flows a Duratec head but you have nothing to back that up because what it does on a flow bench has little to do with how it flows once the intake and TB is on it , You head wont out flow a Duratec head in place or is the engine as efficiant as the Duratec , It comes down to more then a good head on the table , you need a combination of things and I dont feel you are getting the correct information to make those decisions , buying parts and throwing them at the car isnt the way to make HP , but like he said if it dont do what we want just throw some nitrous at it to make it work right ? ? ? ? ? Why not just do it right ? ? ?

Tom

the only difference in those turbos is one has a ported shroud or map enhancement is made to make the compressor map larger and push the surge line further over. it can help spool time but is mainly done to feed the second set of blades to increase efficiency. it is nothing that is going to give you 1k rpm or any thing.. maybe 100 or so.

wellmaybe i can see where he/she is coming from. if i am not mistaken....they wanna get 4-500 whp range. what turbo is reccomended.......a/r ratio, etc
thank you for understanding me........ remember we dont want a 250 whp car we want a 400 + whp car ..... without a big turbo you cant make it . i have a couple of friends with srt-4's open boost and the most they can take out of their car 300 whp max why?because they have a small turbo. if you want a turbo that spool's at 2500 and makes 500 whp that's impossible. honestly, what i can see in this turbo the way it spins off the car and just by blowing in it, it spins freely... so it's kind of hard to me to think this turbo wont spool at 3500 rpm's. before my husband had a crappy turbo 57 trim non- ball bearing, and it spool at 4500 rpm's full boost. so the comparison in these two turbo is no where close.... oh and by the way i think that garrett does have a some kind of knowledge about focuses because they're the ones who has been making the turbos for the wrc focus rally car since the beginning , since they had the 2.0 zetec. < as you can see we did our research before spending 1300$ on a turbo.

Again apples and oranges , Now your trying to compair your engine to WRC and the people that had the turbo custom built also had the rest of the combination to work with the turbo and that turbo on the WRC car was NOT built by Garrett altho there was garrett parts used almost all turbos are garrett in one form or another

400+HP isnt that hard to do and you can do it 2 ways , 1 you can throw money at it and use brute force to push it there or you can get the combination right and get there easy , it takes a combination to get it right and the some of the people here talling you things are the ones that are doing it over and trying to help you not make the same mistake , But carry on you have to find out on your own just like every one else

Im sure you didnt talk to the garrett engineers but some guy making 12.50 an Hr selling turbos for some Co that has no idea what there turbos do on a Focus engine , they asked you things like what HP your looking for , what engine mods and assumed like most and you that a 4 cyl is a 4 cyl and this GT?????? works good for the "2.0" in general and will work good for your "2.0" and that isnt the case , Me? I dont care what turbo you go with its just ashame that your "tuner" states it dont matter if it dont spool up we will hit it with nitrous where for the same money you could of got a turbo where nitrous was used as a power adder not to cover up a mistake

Tom

I was running 10.25:1 compression and 19psi with that turbo, on my way back from Toms I managed to get 93 that wasnt quite 93... more like 87. After an hour or so of highway driving I was almost home when I decided to play with an eclipes... thats when I found out my 93 wasnt 93 and I managed to blow the ring lands off of all four pistons.

We had about 20k BOOSTED miles on that motor and it always made more than 300whp... never smoked, never used oil... ran like a champ up to the point it let go.... so in retrospect I really dont think it was failing on the dyno... it definitly let go back at the house.
