Alright, well I just had my aluminum valve cover come in the mail today. My plastic one got cracked during reinstallation (friend was helpin and neither of us realized it would crack that ridiculously easy), its not leaking, but I want to replace it anyway to make sure. I have a 2.0 btw.

Anyway, I figure now is a better time than any to go ahead and paint it. It came and it needs some cleaning up (not sure if it's coated or not?)

My question is... what color should I paint it?? I have a sonic blue focus, polished strut bar, polished K&N Typhoon intake, and everything else is black. I haven't paitned any of the plastics. I'll probably leave the rest of it alone and just do the valve cover. I'm not sure if I can get it powdercoated or not , not sure if it's pure aluminum or what.

Let me know what your suggestions are!

flat clear coat? I'm planning on cleaning it up a bit, probably will scuff it up a bit with some sand paper, then use either white or gray primer depending on what color I end up going with, then paint it using the high temp paint, throw one or two coats on, depending on how they look, wet sand if needed, then a couple coats of high temp clear. I've only ever painted the interior plastic pieces, so do I need to get any sort of special primer? And anyone else got suggestions?

i love the look of yellow accents on a blue car i always like something bold and bright under the hood so it shows up, blue and black get lost in a engine bay, plus there's gota be other thing avalible in yellow, battery, plug wires

Would it be worth it to powder coat it? It would be like 100 bucks to do that according to the local shop. I want to have it done by this weekend too.

I figured I could just sand it down a bit with some light sand paper, prime it with high temp primer, then paint it with the high temp Ford dark blue (closest match I found at the auto store), and probably put 2 coats of paint on it if needed, then do the high temp clear quite a few times. Sound alright?

Powdercoat - $100
Painting - $15 per can (1 can primer, 1 can color, 1-2 can clear) = $45-60

Spend the extra $40-55 and go for the powdercoat. Professionally done so it'll be correct and higher quality. You'll be able to get a better color than what you can get off the shelf, as well.

As for color, I'm a sucker for blue. I love it, and you can never have too much of it. All accents on my black car are neon-ish blue, and will continue to be as I move forward. I'd even go as far as painting turbo piping to match (if I ever got one...).

$15 per can? WHere are you buying your paint? The UK?? Lol. The Dupli color high temp paint is 5.99ish a can, and I work at Napa so I can get it for 3 bucks a can. So 9 bucks vs. 100.... but I really just don't feel like doing it to be quite honest. I'm going to take it to the powder coat place Friday morning and see what they can tell me. I'm going to get it the closest match of blue to my car that I can get. Although anodized would look pretty sweet I think too... but I'm gonna paint my plastic stuff as well, hopefully it will all match up!

If anyone can tell me this, I'd be happy to know if anyone else has put a metal valve cover on their 2.0 duratec? I read somewhere that the fuel rail is different sothe metal one might not fit... and I really don't feel like having to change the fuel rail, if I even can.... although the 2.3's with that circular thing looks pretty hot I think haha

hehe more to come when its installed! its not exactly the same color but it was the closest that they had (and it's pretty darn close, it's a shade lighter)..... if I wanted the even closer one, he was gonna have to order it for 40-80 bucks more! I figured it's under the hood, it is close, good enough for me lol. What y'all think??
