Waiting on the big brown truck as i type this to bring my new Volant intake,, woohoo,,,[:D]
anyway,, just wanting to see if anyone who has installed one has any tips , shortcuts, or not to do tips,, ?
also a ? about cat baks, i see mbrp is having a sale on there 2.25in focus exhaust, i have seen others recomend this over products such as flowmaster,, my ? is involving the sound mainly, compared to the borla mufflers is mbrp louder, higher pitched than borla, and should i just save up and go with the borla exhaust ?

MBRP can best be described as a "rally" sound. it's a little more blatty and not as mellow as, say, the borla. i'm actually pretty sure the focus rally cars you see on the speed channel once in a while run MBRP, so watch those and you'll get a rough idea. i also think MBRP has sound bites on their website.

do they sound ricerish at all? like the little pops and stuff? i saw a focus the other day here it had those euro lights (i hate those damn things they are ugly as hell lol) and some kinda muffler tip ...dang it sounded shitty lol

CAI dropped right in when we installed it in my car... the only thing that was a pain was the rubber seal they put with it that goes around the edge of the opening... doesn't want to stay put... I'm thinking about using some glue to keep it on there. Otherwise, no issues whatsoever...

He is referring to the rubber seal for the hood.

The MBRP like everyone said has a rally sound, its not for everyone. Its funny, since they have been on sale everyone is buying them. Buy what you like, not whats cheap. I have already seen 2 people complain about their purchases.

[clap] ok,,got it installed, no problems at all , except for it being hard to get at the torx screws that hold the MAF on, but not really a problem , just cramped. real close fit all the way around the new air box,
i can tell the difference in throttle response and feel slight increase in power,, it is louder than the stock air intake for sure, i like that too,
to quote my 13yr old son when i took him for a ride in it,,
"AWSOME...DUDE....SWEET!!!!!!"[thumb]
I guess that means he liked it, i think he is still walking around here grinning from ear to ear.

Anyway,, just to let everyone know it was a very easy install and u get noticable gains, at least i did.here are some pics of it installed

also did the fog light mod [http://www.myfordfocus.com/how-to/fog-light.htm] while i was under the hood, and took off the dealership sticker on the hatch,, will probably finish debadging tommorow, if the rain will stop long enuf, my car is filthy now,, so maybe after i debadge and wax'er up i will take some pics of the tailgate and post.

2 folks who have them, do not like the sound.

1 had a FR header, hi flow cat, 2.5" flexpipe and MBRP in 2.5"

The other had a race header.

In fact mcnews shop car had an MBRP but the car was so loud they had to change, to a FR/Borla SVT system.

once again,, thanks for the good info,, with the CAI increasing the sound and i was also thinking about getting a new flex ,, i don't think that i will need an overly load exhaust,,
