What is the best (inexpensive) upgrade for a 2005 2.0 duratec when it comes to performance chips and air filters? What chip is most worth it for under $100? And as for the air filters?
I just wish to enjoy a simple boost in horsepower as well as a smoother drive. Perhaps there are other inexpensive upgrades?

the only way to get a "chip" is to buy a tuner, and they range from 379$ and up, the duratec PCM cannot be "chipped" it has to have a new tune uploaded through the OBD2 port.

and the air filter in your 05 is a non-serviceable 100k filter. so to go with an aftermarket filter, you would have to purchase a cold air intake or a short ram intake.

and heres a nice list on parts etc for the duratec focus:

I 2nd what honhon said. I have the same year and engine as you. Get rid of that stock intake (you'll reduce weight also, lol) A exhaust upgrade can be inexpensive if you work on it yourself. I thought it was def worth the extra money for the trubendz setup with stainless steal piping (great performance boost also)

But search around the threads, you'll find alot of useful info!
