So the SRI is always getting mixed reviews because of the heat soak. The CAI won't work for me because it rains a lot here during the fall and spring and we have a bit of snow during the winter. I already have a K&N drop in filter so I could get the SVT snorkel and leave it at that. Although I was wondering if anyone has ever taken a CAI tube and cut down a little bit and still manage to make it fit. That way the filter itself would be further away from the ground and further away from the hot engine components.

I think on a Zetec, the SVT snorkle and a drop-in is the best compromise. I ran a short ram on my 01 and on hot days it was an absolute DOG.

Somewhat above the engine or below the engine are the best places for an open filter. I would think that cutting down the tube to move the filter midway is just going to expose it to radiant heat directly.

But hey, since this only seems like you're looking for a seasonal mod, I say go for it and see what you come up with.

in my opinion best comprimise would be 1) svt snorkel and airbox. 2) volant setup with the ram air scoop. 3) if u can find one (i havent seen them for sale for a long time) the Iceman CAI.

Ok, thanks for the responses. I was just checking to see if there was anything out there including custom jobs.

What I'll be doing is mounting the SVT snorkel to the stock zetec box (zetec and svt air boxes are the same in terms of air flow, size...etc). I wanted to open up the diameter of the inlet of the svt snorkel anyway. I'll do a write up once I'm done. I think I found a way to get a second tube running up to the box from under the car (not through that silly little hole on the side, I'll be plugging that up). I'll take pics when I get the snorkel and when it's a nice day out.

i would go with K&N panel filter and SVT snorkel if your on a budget otherwise...go with the volant you can get one used on here most of the time and they are soooo worth it great throttle response with the SRI design but no heatsoak...plus you can run a tube from the side of the box for a cold air feel as well
